VQ03 - Resource Collectors

4th Turn: Turn 204 (1440 AD)

I :whipped: a few units, and kills an Egyptian Horse Archer heading towards our southern copper mine again.

IBT: an Egyptian Horse Archer suicide into Arbela
Swordsman defeats (4.08/6): Egyptian Horse Archer

5th Turn: Turn 205 (1450 AD)

- Suicide a newly whipped cat into the Japanese Stack outside our capital.
Catapult loses to: Japanese Swordsman (6.00/6)

IBT: The egyptian seems eager to suicide .. hey, if we are still trying to survive, what can make you try to suicide??? But I have no complains ...
Longbowman defeats (6.00/6): Egyptian Catapult
Swordsman defeats (1.20/6): Egyptian Horse Archer

6th Turn: Turn 206 (1460 AD)

- And things are basically a rinse and repeat of the following formula:
Code:
for (city=Persepolis; city<=Arbela; city++) {
   build(unit);
wait(1); // let the hammers accumulate for one turn
   whip(unit);
}

- The only exception is when I see this stack:

vq033-pasagadae-siege.jpg

No way I am going to hold that city, its gone. Thus I :whipped: the Longbowmen even when there is no hammer currently stored ...

- And sure enough, the IBT:

vq033-passagadae-lost.jpg

- Roosy must be :smoke:, he spend all his forces reducing Pasagadae to a single unit, and allow the Japs to simply walk in and take the city beneath Roosy's nose  (<--- amazing isn't it? I can still laugh )

Pasargadae begins: Longbowman
Pasargadae finishes: Longbowman
Susa finishes: Catapult
Longbowman defeats (3.12/6): American War Elephant
Longbowman loses to: American War Elephant (4.64/8)
Longbowman defeats (3.96/6): American Maceman
Archer loses to: American Maceman (0.80/8)
Spearman defeats (1.48/4): American Knight
Longbowman loses to: American Knight (10.00/10)
Longbowman loses to: American Knight (6.20/10)
Longbowman loses to: American Knight (7.90/10)
Spearman loses to: Japanese Horse Archer (1.68/6)
Christianity has spread: Pasargadae
Pasargadae lost

And it was a struggle til the end without anymore city loses ...

Here is the situation:

At our capital Persepolis:

vq033-capital-siege.jpg

The rest are single unit, not stack. Shouldn't be a problem to hold it .... until Roosy arrives

Towards the West, at Susa:

vq033-susa-siege.jpg

All are single unit stack, no problem there. Seems like the English is here to protect us ...

And Finally, Going South, at Arbela:

vq033-siege-arbela.jpg

(EDIT: Same picture as Susa posted originally)

Only one lone Knight, should be able to make short work of it.

Autolog, if you want to read (absolutely no comments inserted, too focused on surviving ... )

- The save (who is the unlucky guy to be up?)

I have never seen four AI attack a human - thats insane. Whats even more insane is that neither nappy or monty are among them!!!

I think we have to learn to choose our friends and enemies earlier, without just expansion in mind. This is the second SG in a row that we've had multiple enemies and no good allies.

Yeah... I thoought I had the dogpile when Hatty declared on us... I had no idea Saladin and Roosevelt would do the same... I guess they smelled blood.

So how soon before Vicky and Cathy join the party??

Oh, and here's the roster... good luck bobrath!

player 1: Maquis ---
player 2: Greyfox --- Just Played
player 3: bobrath --- UP! Clawing to hold on
player 4: eektor --- hoping for a turnset? if we last that long?
player 5: sozopol ---

 @ the formula. I guess you know C/C++.

I definitely don't want to be in your shoes bobrath, but something tells me if I get a chance to go I'll be in a worse situation.

My god, that's horrible. So glad it wasn't me. (If it were we'd already be dead I'm sure).

LOL also at the C code, very clever.

I've never been dogpiled like this... heard of it, but never happened to me. I wonder why it did, in this case?

Lurker's comment:

This is one :crazyeye: situation you've got here. I'm gonna be lurking and learning from what you do to save yourself

Well, we're still alive. Only have two Civs still at war with us, and one is the very managable Hatty. Course the other is Roosevelt

I used our Great Engineer to complete Machinery. Too bad we have no iron for crossbows...

I didn't do much in the way of screen shots, cause losing battles just aint' fun stuff to watch (or rewatch). I did whip units at every chance possible.

Vicky won't do anything until her war with Catherine is over, and she's not in any rush to do that apparently.

Tokugowa was bought off on turn 0 for Drama and CoL.
I then converted to Judaism to get Mansa happy (and willing to talk to us).
In 1510 Perseoplois held off an amazing stack of units and was left defended by one swordsman at 0.2 health!!! I thought I might be able to hold onto it as only a few weakened units were left nearby and I had an archer coming off the whip. No such luck, Roosevelt took Perseoplois from us (after Mansa softened us up).
In 1530, Mansa is finally willing to talk to us and will trade Susa for peace. Since he has no units close by, I hold off (Hatty will declare peace for Arbela - pfft).
In 1540 Heliopolis Revolts, but Susa is surrounded and will fall next turn, so I give it to Mansa for peace. The defenders are quickly shuffled to Arbela. Hatty will no longer off peace.

Where we're at:
civ4screenshot00017du.jpg

So short term we're just fine. No idea where Roosevelt's (has to be coming) stack is, but its ok for now. Roosevelt will probably never be willing to talk to us, and Tok will prolly redeclare in the coming turns - can probably bribe him off with more techs as he is still behind a bit. Might want to consider doing that, just to make him more willing to attack someone else with better tech.

And here's all the love:

I did my part, now you get to rebuild us! ;)

Pretty good turns, bob. Good call on changing the religion ... I was hesitating abt that, because arbela was the only city with Judaism, if I changed at that time, we would only enjoy one-third the benefit of theocracy.

I see now we have escalated to an OCC. eh?

eektor, its you turn now, teach the egyptian some lessons ...

Is the VQ series cursed or something?

Perhaps, perhaps: Must be the Chilli. Should have use garllic as icon instead

VQ01 - Captain went MIA -- not that bad, we go on very well
VQ02 - 1961 AD Lost
VQ03 - I think we won't see the 20th century

I always wanted to play an OCC...

Got it. I'll play either tonight or tomorrow.

Oh and yes I agree we should change the icon for VQ04. Besides I don't really like chilis anyways :D

Well that was an interesting and pretty quick turnset. Sorry guys not much I could do. Here it is:

Preturn: 1550 AD
It's all about survival and making peace with the Americans. The Egyptians aren't too much of a threat. In fact they will give our longbowmen some much needed xp.

Turn 4: 1570 AD
Roosevelt will talk, but won't make peace.

Turn 5: 1575 AD
Whipped a longbowmen. Started another longbowmen.

Turn 8: 1590 AD
Our main longbowmen just accumulated 17xp. I gave him the guerilla promotion for hill defense (+20%). It already has city defense 3. This unit is awesome, it can take out knights easily and possibly handle calvary. Let's hope we don't lose this unit. Oh yeah the modifiers for the unit is 100% city defense and 40% hill defense. Our city is on a plain hill too.

Must have missed the message, but Catherine is destroyed.

Turn 10: 1600 AD  Victoria declared war on us. Not good at all.

After turn comments: We are building a longbowmen, but we might want to build wall, castle, and barracks. Not sure what happened to my screenshot but I'll reload save and post a screenshot.

Oh check out the turnlog no losses.

OCC-defenses.JPG

Um ... notice that Catherine is eliminated and we are at war with Roosevelt, Victoria, and Hatty.

Vicky prolly came after us because of the religious differences. Ah well, just means you could now reload this game as VQ04 since *everyone* has gone to war with us in it!

Glad to see we are stll surviving with OCC, and 3 AI at war ... :) I knew vicky would be on us once she eliminated her worst enemy Catherine.

With no metal and food reourses, we can't possible whip much more ... there will be a blood bath ...

WHo's next? ... EDIT: checked, its sozopol, good luck!
