VQ05 - The Conquistadors

As you can probably tell, I didn't have time to take it last night. I'll wait for Chrth to take it tonight.

Ok, looks like the barbs are gone from the new world, unfortunatly we have several AI to work on.

So what does everyone think for a victory? Diplo is out, since we have to attack everyone... Domination? Not sure how we're doing on land area...

I think someone mentioned backdoor domination before? Either that or real domination. With the land from the new world we shoudn't be to far from domination victory. We could probably win a space race victory as well, but we'd have to cripple Mansa to do it, as he is several techs ahead of us.

Remember we can't win until we control the new world totally.... so if we're close to domination we need to be careful to not trigger it before we've cleansed the new world.

Sorry for the late notice, but I don't think I'm going to get to the game tonight (contractors over for estimates) :( ... Maquis if you want to play you can ... if I do find time, I'll post a Got It.

Ok, in favor of not letting this game stall I've got it and will play tonight.

Expect a report in the morning...

Good builder's set of turns... well mostly anyways

Looking at the New World, we have a lot of open holes in our culture, and there are a few more land areas open. I think I'll be working on this a bit.

Changed some city builds. Some new cities are building Lighthouses and courthoueses, but have no cultural buildings. I order up some theatres.

As a bit of a surprise, we got a revolt in Shanghi. Must have been due to the fact that Hermitage was built nearby. (Also, I was surprised to see Shanghi was Roman... when the hell did that happen??)

I also got some nice culture going in Khaisan... Macau will flip to us soon! (This will save us from having to fight Qin; hopefully no one was too eager to take him out!)

The city was down to 2% Chinese at the end of my turns, so it'll revolt during ChrTh's turns...

So as the workers in the new world are chugging along... I get this message:

copper7nl.jpg

So in 1916, we can build obsolete melee units! horray!

Built a couple settlers in the New World. There is one I just dropped off on an isle to the north, which has clams and fish. I was going to settle in place, on the hill. Nice fishing village.

There is another settler on the north continent, which I think should go to the far NE... there's some deer around there, so might make a decent city.

I did spot another settler galleon somewhere that Qin had, but it disappeared. Not sure where it's headed...

Oh, I almost forgot...

Will someone please just take Cyrus out of the game???

Well, I didn't take him out, but there's a cannon and grenadier there bombing his defense down. I'll leave it to ChrTh to end it.

Random thought - but shouldn't our variant demand that we go for a space victory? After all what better exemplifies the "conquer the new world" concept then being the first to find new worlds....

Turn 0 -- 1920 AD

Take a look around, everything seems ok.

Turn 1 -- 1921 AD

Someone else built Pentagon  so I take a gamble on Statue of Liberty (see, the Copper helps!)

Cordoba: Factory > Coal Plant
Susa: Confused Academy > Coal Plant
Vandal: Workboat > Barracks
Carib: University > Barracks
Salamanca: Courthouse > Library
Zaragoza: Theatre > Granary

Gordium bombed to 12%

Santander is built on the ice island.

Macau is now 1% chinese.

I'm not sure what objection Maquis has to putting settlers on a road? :crazyeye:

Turn 2 -- 1922 AD

JC wants Open Borders. I decline.

New Nara: Library > Harbor
Numidian: Workboat > Harbor
Carib: Barracks > Bank
Zaragoza: Granary > Forge
Murcia: Theatre > Lighthouse

Macau is revolting.

Gordium is down to 0%. I'm tempted to attack with the Grenadier this turn, but I'll wait until after I attack with the cannon.

Turn 3 -- 1923 AD

Toledo: Forge > Grocer
Tartar: Workboat > Granary
Vandal: Barracks > Hindu Missionary
Khoisan: University > Barracks

Louis completes the Statue of Library ... guess Seville is going to have to build something else.

Assault on Gordium: Round 1
Cannon defeats Longbow!
Grenadier defeats Longbow. Only a catapult left ...

Turn 4 -- 1924 AD

I've found the Chinese Settler: he and Mansa each have a city on the island west of Gordium.

Seville starts a Worker.
Vandal: Hindu Missionary > Hindu Missionary
Salamanca: Library > Jewish Temple

Assault on Gordium: Round 2
Grenadier defeats Catapult ... Cyrus is no more!

More tonight!

In terms of victory conditions, domination will require us taking out at least JC and one other Civ -- we're at like 38% land mass even with most of the New World under our belt.

Space may be tough as Mansa has a head start (already has Artillery, probably working towards Rocketry). After industrialism completes, I'm going to do Artillery next.

I've found the Chinese Settler: he and Mansa each have a city on the island west of Gordium.

Good to hear that... I would like to *not* have to attack Qin in addition to JC and Mansa.

I forgot to mention, Mansa would be willing to attack JC for us, but we didn't have anything to trade him... I alwys like sparking a little AI-AI war

edit: So you can't play for 3 days, and yet now you can play 1/2 your turns during lunch? :p

I was afraid you'd beat me :spank: if I didn't get my turns done quickly :twitch:

:D

Turn 4 -- 1924 AD (continued)

Now where was I? Ah yes, I'd just eliminated the Persian Menace.

Astrurias is built (north central northern new world), starts Theatre
Jaen is built (north east northern new world), starts Theatre

Start moving some troops to guard our undefended cities.

Turn 5 -- 1925 AD

Barcelona: Aqueduct > Worker
Seville: Worker > Worker
Cordoba: Coal Plant > Grocer
Susa: Coal Plant > Hindu Mandir
Numidian: Harbor > Barracks
Vandal: Hindu Missionary > Hindu Missionary
Khoisan: Barracks > Factory
Pasargadae: Aqueduct > Infantry

Macau is no longer revolting, but is still 1% Chinese.

Turn 6 -- 1926 AD

Seville: Worker > Coal Plant
Persepolis: Destroyer > Coal Plant
Tartar: Granary > Forge
Vandal: Hindu Missionary > University
Salamanca: Jewish Temple > Harbor
Murcia: Lighthouse > Harbor
Vittoria: Lighthouse > Forge

Hinduism has spread in Shandong! Apparently bringing our frigate near it spread Hinduism! :D

:coffee:

Turn 7 -- 1927 AD

Barcelona: Worker > Coal Plant
Carib: Bank > Infantry

I send a caravel up towards Gordium for Worker movement.

Hinduism is stread to Asturias and Jaen.

A Great Prophet is born in Pasargadae (or was it Persepolis?) ... anyway, I'm not sure whether we should merge him or build the Buddhist Shrine, so I sleep him in Madrid.

Turn 8 -- 1928 AD

Industrialism comes in. I go with Refrigeration (due in 6) ... I want the extra water movement for our troops (and some cities will need Supermarkets).

Seville: Coal Plant > Tank
Cordoba: Grocer > Worker
Salamanca: Harbor > University

I send a Warrior from Toledo to Madrid to make it Happy again.

Hinduism is spread to Santander.

Macau is 0% Chinese.

Turn 9 -- 1929 AD

Cordoba: Worker > Buddhist Stupa
Numidian: Barracks > Library
Murcia: Harbor > Forge
Gordium starts Theatre

Whoops, Warrior isn't enough to make Madrid happy. I send a Cavalry up from Cordoba.

Turn 10 -- 1930 AD

Seville: Tank > Tank
Pasargadae: Infantry > Coal Plant
Persepolis: Coal Plant > Machine Gun
Susa: Hindu Mandir > Tank
Carib: Infantry > Infantry
Valencia: Courthouse > Forge
Pamplona: Theatre > FOrge

:coffee:

Well, Macau refuses to flip even at 0%. Guess it'll happen during the next turn. Awlil is starting to feel some cultural pressure at its borders, but not a lot to put it at risk. Ditto Circei. Otherwise the rest of the New World is secure.

I built more workers in the Old World since it was woefully undeveloped. War is going to take place there, so let's get railed up. I've also did some troop builds and cultural pressure on the southern border.

Here's the save:

Shrine I suspect is the better usage - just for the gold boost. Not a big deal at this point tho.

So what's the playing order now?

Roster Check:
GreyFox -- UP!
seezachswim -- On Deck!
Bobrath -- Just went in SGOTM!
ChrTh -- Just went! On deck in SGOTM!
Maquis -- UP in SGOTM!

GreyFox, I saved the Great Prophet for you. And Macau.

BTW, that's our second GP. I generated one and created a shrine with our first. SO neener neener.
