VQ05 - The Conquistadors

Forgot the logging is not working with VQ05 :crazyeye: ... so this report is gonna to be based on memory and pictures.

First off, we have 3 areas that may still see foreign incursions:

First Area:
vq05-1930-area1.jpg

This is solved with Valla-whatever in 1940:
vq05-1940-valladolid.jpg

Yes, bob, its a crappy city, but its purposeis only to deny AI of any land in New World, and also create a canal.

Second Area:
vq05-1830-area2.jpg

This is solved with Largono in 1935:
vq05-1935-lagrono.jpg

Third Area:
vq05-1940-area3.jpg

I've made no attempt at solving this, thinking that our cultural expansion should solve it on its own, but at the end of my turnset, I re-examined it, and now I think I made a mistake. Suggest next player to build two more settlers to fill up the space.

Why two?

Because I would suggest razing Macau:
vq05-1940-macau.jpg

Its too crppy. Raze it of it flips and build another city 1 tile east of it.

The rest of my turnsets are basically military builds and missionaries builds. I did build the Mahabodhi:

vq05-1931-mahobodhi.jpg

With Wall street and all that, each city converted to Hin/Bud would net us 3 gold. So, spam the two religions, guys. For that, I have a transport (yes, I upgraded a couple of galleons to transport) arriving at the new world with 2 Hin Miss and 2 Bud Miss.

Research wise: we got refirgeration:

vq05-1934-refrigeration.jpg

I set us on the path to radio. May be a :smoke:, I was thinking of building a broadcast tower tof urther augment our culture in the border city.

Relationship wise, made a deer to sheep trade with Mansa, and rise the prce of some of our items sold to JC and Mansa. Keep checkin the trade every 5 turns or so, grab any extra gold. On a related note, JC asked us to change civics:

vq05-1935-JC-civic.jpg

Nope, can't do that.

I don't think Awil will flip, so be prepared to go to war with Mansa. JC's city would definitely not flip, so it must be taken by force. For that, I have built us a fe wtanks in the New world, and lots of tanks in the old world. Keep pumping up out tanks in the New world, and I suspect we should be able to declare on JC in the next decade or so.

vq05-1940-power.jpg

In fact, I will suggest a massive military builds in preparation for Mansa as well. You may try to flip Awil, but I really think that is unlikely.

One more thing, I have build us the globe theatre somewhere near the chinese border, in attempt to grab back some of the 2nd tier tiles.

A great scientists is borned. I was contemplating of starting an academy in Pasaegarde (that's why he is there), but figured that the amount of beakers added by the Academy 50% of raw 42 beakers = 21, is the same as if we join him to our oxford university city +6 beakers + 225% = 21. Both are pathetic (assuming we have 110 turns left, 21 beakers will only bring us 2300 beakers, same as if we have him learn us a tech. I rather save him for a GA.

Seezachsiwm is up!

And here is your world to play with:

Its like you're reading my mind!!! Good point on the canal tho. I can let that go. :goodjob:

Unfortunately I'm not going to get to this tonight. I got home a lot later than I thought I was going to (family outing), and I have practice in the morning. I will absoleutely play it tommorrow though. Sorry about this.

I take it seezachswim didn't get a chance to play this yet?

Do you need a skip? Need to keep this game going... we're getting close to the end...

I can't commit to that since today is the wife's birthday. I might be able to sneak the game in when I get home from work as she'll still be out getting her nails done (or whatever it is that women do at salons to feel pretty). I'll post (around 4:30p central) if I can take it.

Fixed your post in case your wife sees it.

The even prettier Mrs. Bob has informed me that there will be no computering until she goes to sleep.... so I may have to increase the wine dosage tonight!

Seriously folks, doubt I'll be able to get to it. Sorry.

That's fine bobrath. As a fellow :whipped: er... married person, I understand completely.

:agree:

I can't play anymore tonight anyway (VQ post is up!), so we can wait til tomorrow.

Maybe not quite the turns that GreyFox was looking for...

First off, I increased the culture rate to 20%. We need to close some gaps in the new world faster then buildings can accomplish.

After pressing enter I get a rather disappointing news item. Mansa Musa has completed the Eiffel Tower. Looks like we have the hard road ahead for cultural pressure. I also noticed that Mansa has Mech Infantry all over the place. Kicking him off our island is going to be rough.

Oh, and no one is willing to trade any of their techs to us.

In 1943, Mansa finally decides that he doesn't need his monopoly on Mass Media anymore and will trade it to us along with his world map and 20g for Refrigeration. I take it so that we don't get too behind in cultural pressure advantages.

The next turn (1944) Mansa completes the Apollo Program.  He goes on to complete his first SS Casing in 1949.

I kept building tanks in the cities that had started the progress, but I tried to get the rest of the cities to good spots. I hired Merchants in our capital to increase the gold income from there. Oh I know we're in Sate Property, but I put the Forbidden Palace down on the southern point of the northern new world. Just in case of course.

We finished Flight on my 9th turn and I picked Fusion as our next tech - only because its the only tech that Mansa didn't already have. It can be rushed a bit if the next player turns down culture and pumps research up to 100% (currently at 6 turns @ 60%). Once we get it... trade it to Mansa (no one else likes us) for whatever you can scam away from him.

In general the other AIs like us... but aren't doing squat to help our research in military techs..... smart buggers.

In 1947, I did have a scare. Mansa had a transport loaded up and was heading towards a small bit of land on the northern new world. Thank god he likes frigid cold copper over tepid deer...
civ4screenshot00045lv.jpg

Of note, the next turn our culture closed that little dip in the north. We still have the gap on the west, but a settler is on a transport 1 turn away. I also have a settler prepped for Macau revolting (if it ever does - no revolt during my turns). Awil has reducded to 89% Malinese... prolly too slow to flip to us. CCircei is 100% Roman still. I just wished that the two biggest power rated folks weren't the ones we have to beat up..
civ4screenshot00155ux.jpg

Here's our economic GIANT of Madrid. Note that we're due to pop a Great Person next turn. Here's hoping its not a GS!
civ4screenshot00096lt.jpg

Military wise... we're not ready yet - esp since most of our tanks are on the old world. Next person might want to consider doing some mass upgrading of our older tech units.
civ4screenshot00113ya.jpg

I got our state religion spread (we're the last one not in free religion) to all but Cyrus's last city. I hovered over no state religion to see what it would change. Here's current vs possible:
civ4screenshot00125gn.jpg

Finally the world view (along with builds if squint real good):
civ4screenshot00164ir.jpg

civ4screenshot00179zn.jpg

and the SAVE

I have two ideas...

1)
If we could get a Great Artist (sadly, Madrid only has a 9% chance of one ... come on, RNG God! :worship: ), we should build a city here:
vq05d2hg.jpg

and culture bomb it. Yes, I know it's an almost-Nara. But if it gets us Awlil (will probably need cultural buildings to finish off the job) without us having to fight Mansa.

2)
The other idea is how to win the variant. 100 turns left. Right now our best bet of victory is a Time Victory. We don't have the relationships for a Diplo, we don't have the military for a Conquest or Domination, we don't have the builds for cultural, and I don't think there's enough time for Space. We do, however, have a sizable score lead. So assuming Mansa doesn't threaten a space victory (tall assumption, I know, but bear with me) ... we don't have to go to war with anybody until there are 10 turns left. All the variant requires is that we control the new world. We build up stacks outside of Awlil (if not yet ours) and Circei and when we hit 10 turns left...attack! We don't have to go offensive in the new world (although we should hit the **** out of any Mansa/JC border cities just to reduce the forces that can get to us), we just need to hold them off for 10 turns. Not sure how easy that will be to do (especially since Mansa could be heading to Alpha Centauri before then), but I thought I'd throw it out there.

I don't think you're allowed to build there next to Awil... too close.

Quite possibly ... but I have to try, man! Of course, it's moot without a Great Artist.
