VQ06b - Emperor just win!

You left out the "less than" part

That's just selective hearing I don't want hear dropjes are bad for me. Oh no (as Henry grabs a handful and almost chokes on them) (another Homer moment) two hours to get downtown......holy smokes.....although AMS is a big city.

I meant a Minute and 50 secs... 2 hours could be possible too, Public Transport and all.... Not exactly known for its "promptness"

Generaly my shopping looks like this:
1) Travel to any given shopping center where I can get what I want.
2) Get into the store (what 10 secs?)
3) Find the product I need (30 secs)
4) Stand in line waiting to pay (1 minute if I am lucky)
5) Get the HELL out of there (5 seconds)
6) Go home in blesfull peace
[Rant]
=> That is ..... if the girlfriend is not with me, otherwise we spend the entire afternoon looking at everything and buying nothing. With the main theme: Oh this was on the other side of the store last week (or month or yesterday , like I care?) and Oh, I wish they had this in my size/color or It didnt have this but did have that... General girl stuff you know?
[/Rant]

Sits down in corner for 24 hours to cool down and wait for the report :)

not like the Swiss but got to be better than Canadian...

I am just use to that efficient Canadian public transit....which takes like 1 1/2 hours to get to Toronto. (45 min drive but in rush hour could be 2 hours)

I remember Holland having excellent transit. Here in Ontario everybody drives what good is public transit. (so how far are you from the bad side of town??) Been there a couple of times what a hoot never seen such big crowds......

I pretty much shop in the same manner and let the girlfriend shop on her own. (can't stand the hours in the store go crazy)(except when she's trying on sweaters.....)

Eektor where are you? Play already and then armstrong and we are moving baby........

bad side? You mean the city shopping centre? About 20-25 minutes once you have the Tram...

Our PT is so good, that they will keep incisting that a train is half an our late, while they normaly go once every half an hour... (ie. they cancelled one)

Anyhoo back to the game(s) at hand... ??

I meant the "red light district" and all the smoke shops.....I know it's near the Krasnopolski hotel/Rijksmuseum.........(Stayed at the Hilton there nearby)

I believe Armstrong will be playing today sometime. So we are moving along.

I also read some of the SGotm01 review which was very informative.

I just thought I'd post another roster:

Roster
-- GreyFox == the official lucky fox ...
-- namliaM == Has a dropje attack can't get any though
-- armstrong == Hope he doesn't kidnap save - UP
-- eektor == Hoping to play before OoP - on deck
-- Cosmichail == Hangover from dropje attack

Happy Father's day....

(dumb) tourists go and "have fun"....

That's the place. Was there on business in '85 with a Canadian, he wanted to go there bad. I just wanted to go see friends and family. So we went and taxi driver warned us to be careful. He almost got beat up but luckily being able to understand Dutch knew what these characters were up I told him we are getting out of there. He went again with a Porsche he rented and that got broken into. (and then he got robbed in Paris by hookers)

My Dad lives in Friesland and has lots of dropjes. I imagine AMS has changed a lot since I've been there. I love going to the bunkers in Oostvorne/Rockanje. (used to go to a club in a bunker in Hellevoetsluis)

Ok back to the game.....Go team B go......

EDIT: This was what Armstrong stated in another SG on June 17, 5:41pm
Yes, I won't be able to play until tomorrow, but I have the entire day free so two SG's is fine Consider this a "got it."

So some time today he'll be done and eektor can play..... and then me woooohoooo

First, the save: http://forums.civfanatics.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=130308&stc=1&d=1150675316

I may be a save-napper, but I'm not a chronic one

Okay, I just played (I think) nine turns. It seemed like a good time to stop since I just took Turfan. I have all 3 of my SG's to play, so a quick report and no pics. :(

Second, the short story: Just took Turfan, but gold & silk spices aren't connected yet. I had some really bad luck and it was bloody as heck (lost 6 units, including a 84% fight) but the city is secure - not much you can do against walls+hills without some feline bombardment. Keshiks & WW are starting to hurt us badly - we lost 2 units to 3 raiding Keshiks. Not much we can do, they outclass our axers & swords. Alphabet is due in 5, so the end is near. I have anti-horse axers in both Besh & Turfan, so I think we're not going to lose any cities. Our economy is decent, and will be even better once gold is mined at Old Sarai. Our military is too weak to take Karakorum any time soon, but Turfan was the real prize anyway :)

Honestly, I think we're in a good spot. Next turnset, Alphabet will come in along with 2 more happy resources... we're ready to explode. Great job everyone, I'm really amazed at what we've accomplished so far :goodjob:
I think the next turnset will be the most important one thus far - how well we trade our techs is going to make or break us.

Third, my Talking Points:

1. The gold mine at Old Sarai isn't hooked up yet! There are two workers nearby who can do it fast, though. They stopped working on cottages when Turfan fell. That's our #1 priority now for both the 7C and the +1 happy.

2. Okinawa's border expands next turn. There's a work boat en route. I was an idiot and started one there, so it's got a few hammers on one, but it's working a lighthouse now. My :smoke:.

3. We need to protect the spice plantation in Turfan! I'd put the anti-horse axer fortified there.

4. Paris is slightly starving atm since it's unhappy due to WW. I'm having it work cottages for cash, but once Gold+Spice come in we should really pay some attention to it's tiles.

5. Neither KK nor Cyrus have Alphabet yet! I think we can get close to tech parity if they don't get it in 5 turns. Making good trades is going to be crucial here. :)

6. We're trading Deer to JC for dyes. It's our only deer, but we'll get a second when we take Cumae. He has his own corn, unfortunately.

7. Due to losses at Turfan & from Keshiks, our military is getting depleted. We need to rebuild it. We should be able to relatively quickly once we settle for peace, though.

8. The land connected to our continent is controlled by JC. Workboat is still exploring.

Fourth, the Turn Log:

Heh, posting the save both on top and the bottom may be overdone ... ;)

Goodjob, taking Turfan. With Keshiks around, we need spears. But I think karakorum is untouchable until the next war.

When you say Alpha due in 5, armstrong, do you mean within our funding limits? If so, next player may wish to mazimize on commerce across the board to gain us Alpha as soon as possible. We need to sign peace sooner rather than later, for I fear the keshiks will only grow in numbers.

Roster
-- GreyFox == Hoping his luck continues on ...
-- namliaM == Busy in the "bad-side" of town :mischief:
-- armstrong == Goodjob nabbing us Turfan and remembering the save ...
-- eektor == UP for peace and trade negotiation -- OoP: 2006.06.21~30
-- Cosmichail == hoping to recieve a Father's Day card from Luke -- OoP: 2006.06.24~07.01

EDIT: added in OoP period of players for easy reference
EDIT2: removed OoP for Cosmichail

Way to go Armstrong that Turfan will prove to be a real asset in the long run. It is understandable that it was bloody up against the defenses in Turfan and sometimes the RNG just hits you when it's least expect it. 84%
seems like good odds but if RNG is against you asta la vista baby....

This is a momentous tactical maneuver that will pay off throughout the entire game. :king: (good insistence on your part NamliaM/ with gold-plantation we will have improvement in finances and happiness.) double whammy

So we wait until alphabet and try to extort some techs from KK to get some gain on techs and then sue for peace. One thing we will need is hunting/math-construction/COL/Monarchy and archery for defenses. Considering our defensive situation I feel hunting/archery is important but speculating at this point until I view the save.

Since KK has Keshiks now we need to find out who he is getting the horses from and for what so that we may use that in a future war. I felt that this set was going to be tough. You must be weary from this difficult battle Armstrong.

EDIT: Luke, Luuukkkkeee where is my Father's day card??? Son why?? Father why did you cut my hand off?? Father where is my hand, it has the Father's day card??? OOPS

Other than extorting techs I dont see KK becoming a trading partner...

After alphabet we go for Math => Construction, right? To get those stone throwing things...

What is our next goal after that? CoL?

I hope that Armstrong did not turn around our exploring Workboat

We still have NO religion?

Greyfox,

I am not OOP for that period, even though I am not going to be home, I am taking my CPU with me. Have internet access and will continue to play.

Just didn't want to be OOP same time as Eektor.

I think that sounds good. If Cyrus doesn't get Alphabet before us, we can trade the ABC's for Math. Or, beat Math out of KK and get Construction from the Persian? Sheesh, I feel like I'm in kindergarten again

Nope, he's motorin' along. Unfortunately, our "new land" is controlled by JC.

namliaM said:

We have trade routes, so we'll get Buddhism eventually, but ya, it's been too long. :( A temple in Paris would be nice.

Whoops, missed this post. Alphabet is in 5 at 80% research with 130 (-29) gpt. So yes, that's using the coin from Turfan... but as you said, it's worth it. If we can beat Cyrus to Alphabet, things start looking pretty good (at least as far as Emperor goes!) :)

There's no fear of disbanding units now- all those cottages y'all built :goodjob: are letting us run at 30-40% commerce even without war loot. Which, for having 7 cities in 350 AD, isn't chump change at all :)

Alphabet is in 5 at 80% research with 130 (-29) gpt.

Actually Armstrong you have it at 90% 115 (-29gpt) but the last turn will probably stay at 1 even if you drop science rate, so yes 3 turns then have to drop leaving 2 turns at whatever rate will provide +gpt. (maybe tweak to get to less -gpt.) Paris/CH are causing us grief with unhappy citizens but we have to hold out until we have alphabet.

Again nervous nelly here but CH has only 1 warrior. If a Keshik gets there we might loose it. Please, Please some defense.....(maybe whip an axe?)

What techs do we try for extortion. Hunting/Archery would be nice but math would be valuable. How long do we want to hold out on hunting/archery? If Cyrus lacks alpha when we get it perhaps trying to get those in a trade??(and more)

Looking good once Axe healed in Turfan protect plantation. It's still not within our borders but soon will be but by then we should have peace with KK. KK has two sheep and maybe that is what he is trading for horses??

Good Luck Eektor......

Obviously, we go for those with the highest beakers value. Things like archery and hunting ... we could've easily learn them on our own. But remember we still have some beakers invested in Maths (don't know how much it has degraded though ... ).

I would recommend pulling back our axes to defend nearby cities if possible instead of whipping more axes in cities where there is inadequate defenses. However, be very careful, remember that Keshiks ignore terrain movement cost.

Long term wise, guess as long as Kublai is still around, we would pretty much be in pointy stick research mode. So suggest heading towards construction, and start wrecking havoc in the mongolian again once we have the cats.

Well, I got it and I'll play tonight.

 Well it seems I missed out on a lot of talk ... between how women shop (i agree with you there) and the red light district of netherlands (btw gratz on your team's performance in the world cup).

Anyways, back to the game. It seems all I have to do is survive 5 more turns to make peace ... :hmm: that doesn't sound too hard. Then again I haven't looked at the save.

As for the trades we need to extort, which ones should I go for? I will check on what I could get from Cyrus first and try to get the most techs possible.

The easiest way of making sure KK doesnt have any horses anymore... is to pillage EVERYTHING he has....

I think MOUNTAINS of cats (not the musical) will be needed for our next campaign vs either JC (Juck Praets, if they are still around) or Cyrus. I think we need mucho more land if we are to compete with the AIs....

But I think we need to pick something to research that no one has yet ... (if it excists) Something anything to trade with if possible. And if possible do a 2fer... Reseach 1 tech and trade it for another 2.

CoL and Optics are goals for me. If we can meet more AI ASAP that means we get more/better trades.

We should try to run Science at a percentage that is "advantagious" ie. gives the most multiple of 5's for cities that have a library (ie paris).... But for Alphabet, we need it ASAP...

edit:
greyfox said:

You probably mean the highest TOTAL beaker value... Or the highest usefull beaker value.
Simply picking the highest value is not allways the best thing. Calander (just as an example) may be up for grabs, but as current is total waste to us. In which case CoL + Hunting, which is way lower in beaker count will prove way more valuable than the highpriced Calander.

(Just to make sure... Tech names are only random picks, I dont know if we can pick them up or even have the prereqs for them)

But remember we still have some beakers invested in Maths

Good point, Greyfox. I checked the save again and we have 174/390 beakers invested in Math. So we might want to go for that soon to keep the investment.

Trading wise is good and I suspect if we stay at peace too long Keshiks will be coming at us in hordes ergo the need for spears and as pointed out the "pointy stick" research is the only way now. Those kitties will be needed soon and agree NamliaM let's just pillage everything to break that deal. I would leave the elephants alone though (happiness/war elephants) and we will need those since JC has them too.

ARGH I hate those war elephants they can be a real pain, Swords/axes don't do well against them and even spears loose unless promoted.

:goodjob:
