Flight Check: 1 city, 3 population, settler due in 1, 2 warriors in capital, 1 warrior & curragh exploring, met 3 Civs. Port- Up BW, Pt, & CB. Has 4 cities & 45g. Amer- Up BW, Pt, & CB. Has 3 cities & 25g. Iroq- Up BW, Pt, CB, & WC. Has 3 cities & 35g. BUT is down Masonry.

Trade Iroquois Masonry for WC & 20g.
Trade Abe WC & 78g for Pottery & CB.
Trade Portugal WC for 45g.

End result: 3 techs for 13g.

Change Carthage to a granary.
Send both warriors out scouting(we need to reveal the NW terrain BAD.)
Increase entertainment to 20%.

1- Scouting, spot some nice terrain to the north.
Abe & Haiwa are up BW, Henry has BW & Myst.

2-

3- Worker starts chopping game tile.

4- Meet the Celts, who have a city 4 tiles from our border.
He’s has BW, Wheel, 0g, & 2 workers. He doesn’t know Masonry or the Alph yet. The workers make me thing that he’s already at war with someone. Good news!!
Trade him Alph & Mas for BW & 2 slaves.

IT- Carthage: Gran>Set

5- Japanese warrior shows up outside our border. He’s got TW & 45g, but is down Mas & Alph.
Everyone else now has TW except Abe & Haiwa.
Trade him Mas & Alph for TW & 45g
Trade Abe TW for 129g.
We just happen to have horses inside our border![dance]
Slaves move over to start connecting them.

Hiawa is down TW, but has nothing to trade for it.
Port & Celts have Myst, but noone else has anything to give making brokering it pointless.

6- Worker finishes his forest chop, taking 2 turns off our settler. Starts irrigating game.
Find the Iroquois border WAAAAY to the south.
Henry & Brennus both want 1gpt & 280g for Myst.
Spot some furs 5 tiles outside our border to the SW.

7-

8- Carthage builds Settler>warrior (for MP duty)
Two more slaves come on the market(1 from Jap & 1 from Abe), but their not worth the 120g each they want for them.
Lux back to 0.

9- Worker finishes iragating, starts a road.
Settler is heading for the bend in the river to the SW, between the 3 BGs.

10- Pop grows, war due in 1, growth in 3. Increase ent to 10% to keep everyone happy till our MP is produced.
A Celtic warrior/settler pair are in the neighborhood of our furs. Looks like we’re beat to them.
Slaves start roading our horse tile.
Nothing new on the Diplo front.

**End o turn Report**
*I think we should start land grabbing as fast as possible. We’re pretty cut off to the N & W, drop a good city in each direction then we’ll start expanding south as fast as possible.
*I was planning on the settler taking 1 step SW, then settling there.
*Unfortunately those furs are the only luxuries I’ve seen so far, we’ll have to rely on MPs & the slider for a bit till we can take them from the Celts.
*I woulndn't worry too much about our lack of troops........ yet. I don't see us getting attacked till the land grab is over.

Good luck!

SAVE

IBT. Have a weird feeling that we are already out of space to settle. It was supposed to be a huge map. Weird. Carthage warrior->curragh to sail north. Crippled start it was.

[1] Slider down to zero. Explore. Settler tries to claim furs. Warrior moves there also.
IBT. Celts settle on furs.

[2] Met Viking. The lack wheel.
IBT. Horses hooked.

[3] Changed Carthage to NM because of Celtic archer moving around just in case. Lux up again.
IBT. Celtic archers move.

[4] Utica founded, building warrior. Some civs have HBR, Portugal has IW. Too expensive to buy both, will wait.
IBT. Barbarian horseman kills our worker.

[5] Killed him with warrior. Lux up again to 20%.
IBT. Carthage NM->settler.

[6] Exploring.
IBT. Utica warrior->rax? What else?

[7] Viking have Writing.
IBT. Carthage settler->settler.

[8] Silks in tundra? Weird. This map is weird. Settler moves SE.
IBT. Portuguese produced another settler.

[9] Settler arrives.
IBT. No enemies around our borders.

[10] Leptis Magna founded and builds warrior. I decided the game is boring and attacked Portuguese settler/warrior with warrior, killing the warrior and capturing two workers. We are at war with Henry now. Sorry about that. Well, he is rather far away, so should be OK for some time. Had no mm or diplo this turn. I messed up with recordkeeping somewhere and not sure how many turns did I play. Sorry about that.

They went to a journey to a far-away land.
They sailed right at midnight with Strider ahead
Then followed by Fire, by Khan, and by me
By Chief and an And and whatever might be.

Arrived in the shadow and settled in dark
They mined and built roads and tested their luck.

Nice set of turns, your up CT.

got it.

Game Save

Turn 0 - 2030BC

Noticed 2 captured workers and a warrior far to the south... 20 turns away... We're also at war with Portugal. It was clarified in the chat that akots killed it for the workers. (why?) I also notice that we're in a very tight spot... hmm, that warrior already moved? Argh... moved the workers already... When do we restart? :p

Turn 1 - 1990BC

Spot a dark red border. Nothing on the diplo-front yet. MM Carthage to get the settler in 1 turn.

Carthage: Settler->Settler (hopefully...)

ARGH!!!!!!! Gergovia (Celtic) was founded close to where I was going to settle! Oh well, atleast it'll be tight... I also meet the Byzantines. They'll give us Iron Working for Masonry and 244g. I shop around and decide to wait a bit. Math might help us, too.

Turn 2 - 1910BC

Theveste founed. Mysticism has been depreciated. So has IW. I find out why when I contact Ragnar. He just got Myst. and IW. The deal with the Byzantines, however, just went up. I suspect they're researching Masonry. IW is certainly at last civ price. Vikings also have writing, which I'll wait to be traded around. The Great Library will be great in this game I think.

Turn 3 - 1870BC

Met the Inca. They only have Mysticism. I figure it's time to get IW now, and trade it (since it's a last civ tech now) to the Inca for Mysticism. IW from the Byzantines for Masonry and 278g. Trade IW (now last civ price) to the Inca for Mysticism and 75g.

IBT: Portugal and America signed an alliance against us!

Turn 4 - 1830BC

Leptis: Warrior->Archer

Celts are building the pyramids. There's a Port spear between the workers and home... with America to the east. Spot an American settler. Let's go get it!!! :crazyeye:

Turn 5 - 1790BC

Utica: Merc->Archer

Got HBR from the Celts for 4gpt and 236 gold. This is for 2 reasons - first, we need to give them a reason NOT to attack us. Second, we need a good attacking unit ASAP. Switch Carthage to a horseman.

Turn 6 - 1750BC

Theveste: Warrior->Horse

Madrid builds the Collosus.

IBT: Portugal wants to talk! YAY! Rep hit time!!! 52g and 10gpt?? Yikes! ok, maybe if I defeat a unit or two first...

Turn 7 - 1725BC

We have Mathematics! Switched to currency.

Carthage: Horse->Horse

Let's go shopping. Wow, Vikings would give us Writing and 50g for Math. Celts have Math. Iroquois would give us writing, but are broke. Japan won't give it to us easily (Math and 1gpt). They must be close to researching it. I decide to get a trade from the Vikings. We can try for the Great Library if we prebuild now. (and end the wars). Now Portugal would take math for peace. I'll give in, since we can't afford a dogpile. I'm also going for lit. We also get 74 gold out of Portugal.

Turn 8 - 1700BC

Nothing much.

Turn 9 - 1675BC

Nothing much. A Celt warrior starts moving close to Leptis Magna. I also spy 2 American warriors headed north. We are at par, or ahead of everyone in techs.

Turn 10 - 1675BC

There's 3 American spears approaching us, too. Increased lux rate. The Celt warrior is moving around our border. Watch out for it. America still won't talk, but try every turn.

Just think of it! We sold Math to Portugal for two workers (250g) and 76g and trashed their rep for the rest of the game!

With fear and awe their neighbors were met
For others to learn and to see what was left.
In blood and in shame they stepped out of the mist
And wrote all the moves to compile their list.

That's an optimistic way of looking at it. ;)

@Chieftess: It's only Demigod, nothing to be afraid of IMHO. We also got nice start with good shields and horses. So, Celts would go ASAP. And with NM as UU ... the game is a wrap even before the start. We should try for some wars before getting Feudalism. BTW, Carthage was optimized for growth which was killed by making settler in 1 turn in 1990 BC :) You are a mod so free to wink at anyone. I'm just a regular guy and would smile instead. Besides being a poet requires insulting people from time to time meaning no offense and having deep respect. Please post "you are forgiven".

Since 1.20 patch is close to coming, I'm planning to upgrade as soon as it appears. Unless there is some concern for this particular game.

Personally akots, I think picking a fight with a demi-god AI in 2070BC wasn't the brightest move. It cost us for peace, cramped our expansion & we only gained 2 slaves. Not to mention your reasoning of "I was bored"???

This game is far from "a wrap", all it takes is one dog pile early in the game & we're finished.

OK, I do partially agree with your points here. However, please take into account the following:
1) The only civ which had writing when war was started was Viking, so no danger of dogpile. Indeed, the war should have been started earlier.
2) Our crippled starting location without food bonus.
3) Being outsettled by AI badly because of granary instead of early settler. Not my fault. Indeed the expansion has been crampled already very badly if not lethally. Still don't see any benefit of early granary with very poor food bonuses (less than 5+fpt).
4) Loss of worker to barbarians. These are our people after all, we must avenge them.
5) If we sit and wait with 5 or 6 cities the game would be lost rather soon despite NM as UU.
6) Great oppurtunity seeing poorly protected settler far away. And our warrior came to the end of his exploration route.
7) No Celtic swords or other swords and even no horses around and NM can be great against archers.
8) Golden Age can be avoided but would provide a great help in the current situation in buildup of horses for attack against Celts which is the primary goal.
9) Better to start when it pleases us not our rivals.
10) I hate to sit and wait when AI comes to you and you struggle to defend the undefendable.
11) It was a poor research path (Math-Currency) IMHO but somehow it worked!
12) DG is a very fair level in C3C, can be very easy if played well. Probably, equals to in between Monarch and Emperor in vanilla or PTW being more close to Emperor.
13) It turned out that Portugal rep is trashed. There is a good thing in a dogpile also! It can greatly help to slow down tech race.

Hope this is enough to justify the action. Please no offense. You are a very experienced player. So, you would have seen all this by yourself and there is little use of me spending time posting this and you spending time reading this. That was what I expected but looks like it does not work. Alas. I may switch with Amirsan who is eager to try.

IBT: celts are annoyed now with us as they ask us to leave.
Leptis Magna archer-worker
Japan starts Pyramids

1625: Spot a settler-s[ear pair from America. I will wait to attack until I can attack with the horse and warrior
Lincoln wiill talk now, but wants HBR for peace. Maybe after I take the settler......

IBT: Carthage horse-settler (we did build a granary for a reason, right?

1600: Reg horse kills spear, - 1 hp, promotes to veteran and we capture the settler
America is still doubtful. I wll take out 2 conscript warriors then.
Trade math to Japan for 104 gold

1575: zz

IBT: Japn demands 37 gold back.....I cave. But your time will come!!
Thveste horse-NM

1550: Reg horse kills spear -1hp
Reg archer kills red warrior, -1hp and promotes
America has a monopoly. If we trade math, HBR, writing and IW, he is getting close. However, I just haggle 20 gold for peace from him
Now annoyed
Spot a stack of 5 barb galleys

IBT: Our vailant curragh survives all barb galley attacks, now is elite, and has 3 hp.
Utica archer-worker
Leptis Magna worker-archer

1525: Looks like Portugal got phil first. They have philosophy and map making now. Hm.....

1500: Sci to 80, lit in 30 a -5gpt

IBT: Carthage settler-settler
Entremont completes the Oracle

1475: Luxes to 10%, sci to 90%

1450: Contact orange russia. No trades.
Luxes back to 20.

IBT: Utica worker-barracks

1425: zz

IBT: Theveste NM-temple

1400: Contact Babylon. Up math on them

Great turn! Settler factory is back online and military in good shape.

To soften my rather sarcastic polemics with Khan (no offense again), I'll post a translation from Russian made by me about 6 years ago. The original was written by great Russian poet of the first half of 20th century, Konstantin Balmont.

I DON'T KNOW OF WISDOM

I don't know of wisdom good for Universe,
There is only fleetingness in my humble verse.
Each of those transiencies has a world inside,
Each of worlds has rainbow, cheerful, high, and bright.

Sages! Please don't curse me since I bear no blame.
I'm just little cloudlet burning with the flame.
I'm just little cloudlet. I'm just floating through
Calling for the dreamers not inviting you.
