Wales: Some Facts

Bloody hell that's a bump and a half...

BTW I'm from Wales, so I think I'm allowed to slam it, wherever and whenever I can.

Yey, a thread about my own country, and I can speak Welsh, I actually go to a Welsh language school and to be honest, it's a lot better than all the English schools in the area!

Arddechog!

Dwi'n byw yn Casnewydd, Ble dch chi'n byw yn Caerdydd, Splott? LOL

Within reason, lets not be nasty for the sake of it!

Oggy Oggy Oggy!

Do the Welsh eat the same food as the English or do they eat thier own messed up stuff?

Never been fond of Lavabread at all Perfie ;) (see you at Simphoni, later) Although, I most certainly recommend Welsh Cakes..

I think in Argentina there are still a couple of folks who can speak Welsh, specially in Patagonia.

Aye! That's correct. Our only "colony" of sorts. Was never a government venture though, just people fleeing from persecution.

It's quite a unique place of Latino-Celtic Culture.

The Welsh are great! They've given us some great musicians: Tom Jones, Aled Jones and Charlotte Church, to name but two.

heheh, A bit, although it's improved quite abit in the last 3 years. New developments going on everywhere. Kingsway is being ripped down, The university is building a campus in the city centre next to the Usk, they finally got rid of that unsightly pedestrian bridge from the bus station, and will be building a new bus-station near the train station.

oh and two 25+ floor towers near the chartist one.

I'm from Cardiff yeah (canton) but because my dad's from Newport I've always supported them (and the Dragons) in rugby and I go there every week to watch their games. Also when I posted yesterday I never realised that the thread was 2 years old!

1) The Welsh are nothing like the English; not only is the national identity separate, but they are a separate ethnic group too.
Really? Y'all look the same to me.

Wales eat a lot of krill, plankton and sardines.

And their national flower is the Leek.

Famous Welshman include:

Lloyd George (knew my father)
Neil Kinnock (the Welsh nodding head)
Merlin (the Welsh Wizard)
Henry Tudor (I'm Henry VII I am)

In the days of the Druids, the Welsh ruled southern
Britain from the Isle of Anglesey (also known as Mona).

The welsh language is a form of treble consonant vowelless encryption cifer.

They have some of the best place names in the world too, like Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.

EDIT: For some reason the forum splits that name into 2 words. It isn't.

Whats with those south american welsh.. how/why/still today?

They emigrated there and since southern Argentina is pretty empty they kept their language.

But they make it with beer added so it is even more uber than cheese on toast.

And Ivor the Engine, and SuperTed. I'm quite fond of Catherinne Zeta Jones and Charlotte Church as well.

I'm posting this because Wales is virtually never discussed as a subject here, and, esp. amongst Americans and continental Europeans, is an object of almost total ignorance.

Why do we need to know about Wales so much?

Sorry to revive such an old thread, but I find it HILARIOUS the amount of mod action in these two pages. Generally speaking, you'll find more than your fair-share of English people who will actively go out of their way to slam Wales, wherever and whenever they can. Sad that such a minority ruins their country's image, much like their football hooligans abroad.

Wouldn't see that happening after a game of rugby in Cardiff ;)
You should poke around more, I'm sure there are more mod-happy threads about the forums. /PDMA
