Italy is great, and it's food is the best in the world. Contrary to what others have said, knowing French doesn't make you sound worldly or more intelligent. Trust me, that isn't the case.

German is also really cool, and you sound so industrious when speaking it. Thos two are what I would suggest.

Montreal is about the only city in the world where having a heavy French accent is not a social benefit.....

Oddly enough, I think learning a computer language and even moreso, learning Elvish, really would help me impress my girlfriend. She is unique among women (a little nerdy at times, like me), but damn she is hot.

BTW, she is kind of the reason I am looking into this whole language thing in the first place. I need something to keep me busy while she is off studying abroad in Spain this semester, and learning another language seems to be a good use of my time.

Macedonian.

There are actually three languages named Macedonian. The oldest was Greekish, spoken by Alexander the Great and, indeed, Seleucus Nicator. Next, after the Roman conquest, there developed a Romance language called Macedonian. Several hundred years after that, a Slavic language developed in the area.

The first two are extinct, iirc, and the last one isn't doing too well.

I think the last one is a dialect of the Romanian language. Do the first two count, as they were developed before the end of Roman influence in the area?

Learn Russian, it's more fun to learn because it's a different alphabet. It's more difficult than Western European languages and the verbs are nasty but it will be more rewarding in the long run.
