Funny how so many people are fatalistic and want to welcome death.

It says much on the level of misery in our world today.

Rollercoasters are fun. Would you want to stay on one forever?

edit: cotton candy is delicious. Would you want to eat only cotton candy forever? Ok I think Im done;)

Yeah, I'm interested in what the future will bring. Of course I wouldn't wat absolute immortality, maybe the kind where you still have to watch out for falling pianos.

Being done is no fun. ;)

I think life is a lot more than just a roller coaster ride or empty calories. Since you evidently want to get spirtual with us here lets do so. According to books I've read about reincarnation, past lives, Life Between Life (the place where we are after we die one time around and before we are born for the next), etc. this life here on Earth is a training ground. We disconnect from the easy living, bliss and all-connectedness that we feel in the realm between lives (where we rest at the inn and recharge our Hit Points so to speak) and decide to come here to build experience (literally). I agree with you that self-consciousness (in the limited sense we have it here) is certainly a heafty responsibility, often even feeling like a burden but I still view it as a blessing of the highest order and I wouldn't ever trade it for the life of a rabbit or a bird. This is IT. Right here, right now. If you remain cynical and spend your whole life looking forward to eternal rest you might just find yourself having to life such a burdensome life all over again next time. ;)

Ironically Mr. Sibling may well build more spirtual experience points by the time he dies than you will. :D

Maybe. Ive read some of those books. My ideas about reincarnation are very different froim the standard generic fare.

Anything in excess is a burden.
I wouldn't ever trade it for the life of a rabbit or a bird.
Why not?
This is IT. Right here, right now.
How terrible that would be.

People always jump to the same conclusion: because I accept that death is a natural part of life, therefore I must want to drop dead as soon as possible. Your logic is faulty Captain.

At last we agree. As I said in his thread about 'evidence', an unrecognized, unknown Spiritual Giant walks among us. "Curt! Why dost thou persecute me??" ;)

I didn't pull the skulls grin on this thread.

Really? Have you ever had too much love?

Bozo Erectus said:
Because I like being me and being able to think. The life of a (relatively) dumb creature doesn't appeal to me (as cute as they might be to have as pets, I wouldn't want to be a pet).

If you can't enjoy life NOW what makes you think you're going to be able to enjoy it on some "higher realm". Don't you ever worry you might carry your gloom and doom outlook to the next life (10 PRINT "If I can just get thru this one, the next one is bound to better" 20 GOTO 10 ;)).

I was more commenting on the fact that you view this life as such a curse. ;)

Curt is full of the holy spirit... or some kind of spirit anyway. God works in mysterious ways.

No.

Imagine yourself living at year 3006. You would be antiquity. Or year 100 000. You would have some SERIOUS problems to remember what has happened to you during your life. I think if you could live forever you would become insane :crazyeye:

Great question. You mean love the emotion? Yes I have. Its one of the heaviest things we're asked to carry with us.
Because I like being me and being able to think. The life of a (relatively) dumb creature doesn't appeal to me (as cute as they might be to have as pets, I wouldn't want to be a pet).
Narz likes being Narz! Imagine that! [/sarcasm] One day try imagining not being Narz (Im talking about inside, dont waste time imagining Narz walking around in a giant rabbit suit). A complete absence of Narzness. Being something else, anything. It aint easy, but it can be done, if you try really really hard.

Again Captain, theres nothing gloom and doom about knowing that death is an integral part of life. Am I gloomy because I know the suns going to set in a few hours? Sheesh:rolleyes:

shouting into megaphone: Eternal life would be a curse! Not life! I repeat: Eternal life would be a curse! Not life!

Oh, he's full of something alright! (just kidding with you Herr Sibling;) )

I believe in eternal life in a state of joy with God. This so far surpasses earthly existence that I would not want to delay it any more than necessary.

But maybe we are just worm food after all. Even if I were sure of this, I would not want to live forever. It would grow tiresome eventually, and I would one day feel that it is my time to die. If I could live a long time but eventually opt out at the time of my choosing, maybe I would take it.

Looks like this is a morning for old songs:

in the year 2525
if man is still alive
if woman can survive
they may find...

in the year 3535
ain't gonna need to tell the truth tell no lies
everything you think do and say
is in the pill you took today

in the year 4545
ain't gonna need your teeth won't need your eyes
you won't find a thing to chew
nobody's gonna look at you

in the year 5555
your arms are hanging limp at your sides
your legs got nothing to do
some machines doing that for you

in the year 6565
ain't gonna need no husband won't need no wife
you'll pick your son pick your daughter too
from the bottom of a long glass tube

in the year 7510
if God's a-comin' he ought to make it by then
maybe he'll look around himself and say
"guess it's time for the Judgement Day''

in the year 8510
God is gonna shake his mighty head
he'll either say "I'm pleased where man has been''
or tear it down and start again

in the year 9595
I'm kinda wondering if man's gonna be alive
he's taken everything this old earth can give
and he ain't put back nothing...

now it's been 10,000 years
man has cried a billion tears
for what he never knew
now man's reign is through

but through the eternal night
the twinkling of starlight
so very far away
maybe it's only yesterday...

in the year 2525
if man is still alive
if woman can survive
they may find...

in the year 3535
ain't gonna need to tell the truth tell no lies
everything you think do or say
is in the pill you took today

An immortal eternity of learning is not stagnation.

'Living' while wrapped up in tradition, worshipping a dead man on a cross is stagnation.

Glad I could clear that up for you.

PS
What happened to the old, funny Bozo?

Learning what exactly? By learning, do you mean cataloguing all the objects and phenomena in the universe?

I dont worship any man, either dead or living.

He's still there. Funny Bozo can only be seen by those who agree with him. The moment disagreement occurs, he vanishes in a puff of smoke.

The scope is endless. And who says that the future will be restrictive to
this planet...To choose death over immortality is to me, the product of
indoctrination by guilt-dealing religions that demand all men be humble.

Stuff that - I want to see the universe...Why should I settle for less?

If you want to be quality wormfood, good for you.

I don't really have a care what you worship.

That would be the same as the 'Friendly and well-mannered Curt' then!

;)

Hey they gotta eat too ya know. No seriously, they do.

Could have fooled me with all of your religious threads.

Nahh, that Curt would be boring. I like this Curt the best:)
