I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism. I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the International Banking House of Brown Brothers in 1902-1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for the American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras right for the American fruit companies in 1903. In China in 1927 I helped see to it that Standard Oil went on its way unmolested.

General Smedley Butler, the highest decorated US Soldier ever, on war in "Common Sense",1935.

General Butler was also approached in 1932 to lead a right wing fascist coup against Roosevelt, backed by Wall Street Bankers.

He was the highest decorated Marine, not US soldier. Only officer in the corps to win two medals of honor, though Dan Daley has also accomplished this, but Daley was an enlisted man.

Matt Urban is the most decorated US soldier.

Was there a point? Other then the US and/or capitalism is evil?

"right wing fascist coup" huh???

He's actually telling the truth about that.

I know this. I was asking what was the connection? And to be honest with this plot, thats all it was, talk. There was never any real danger of this working. You can say maybe and what if Butler hadn't blown the whistle. But if Butler didn't, someone else would of. You can't keep a plot like this secret.

Now don't get me wrong, this is a big crime. And if there was any justice, people would of gone to jail for this crime. But never the less, it was a crime doomed to fail never the less.

Oh, I certainly agree there. They were delusional idiots if they thought they could have gotten away with it.

You can if a nightclub owner shoots the assassin.

Anyhow, it was a decent cover up. And the coup may actually have worked given a couple variables.

Now that I would support!

Okay...but what about it? Is this a thread on American interventions in the first half of the 20th Century, about this crackpot plot during the Depression? Anything you're trying to tie to today's events?

During this period in the great depression, mainstream radio shows was actually devoting time to seriously debate whether or not that United States should adopt a fascist or communist command economy.

I don't know the details of the coup, but a lot of things seemed possible and necesary at that time.

Pretty much the high point of the Communist and Fascist societies or wannabe political parties in America. Desperate times often attract people with desperate solutions.
