drzoidberg: Blood Bowl has been established as being set in Warhammer Fantasy. I wish I could quote my source, but I can only remember having read this detail.
As to the conenction between Warhammer Fantasy and 40k:
In the original background material for 40k, they stated clearly that the Emperor was originally born on Earth, circa 8000 BC, in Central Anatolia. Funnily enough he has a very similar origin to Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Shamans prophecised a messed up future, and sacrificed themselves to create a powerful being who could be reborn if killed and would serve as humanity's protector against the evil of the universe.
He wanders the world in many guises and tries various ways to save us (Jesus, Mohammed and Budhha being some of his many guises). He shapes the overall progress of culture and technology worldwide. Eventually he believes he is no longer able to work in the background and in disguise, so he takes over the world. Ther's much more to it of course, but you get the idea.
Now, this version of the background is no longer canon (GW retcons things seemingly at random), but if you accept it (as I do) it does rule out Warhammer Fantasy and 40k being part of the same universe. I think it's easier to treat them as analogues of each other and just have fun with them.
It would be very interesting to create mod based on a hypothetical future for Warhammer Fantasy though. It would be important, I feel, not to turn it into 40k but go somewhere else with it. I suggest more of a demented Jules Vernian feel.
Actually, is anyone interested? I don't have the skills for graphics or any of the technical stuff, but I'd be only too glad to write background material and such.
