Is it possible to make weapon promotions changeable for all units at any point int he game? In Warhammer Tabletop, part of the strategy of the game is deciding on how to arm your men, and for what purpose you intend to use them for. The majority of troops have a reasonable amount of choice to pick from with dual weapons, flails, great weapons, shields, and heavy armour, that are better for certain situations or perhaps complement other units you have in your army.

For Civ4, in the research screen you complete a core area like Weapons Training or something similiar and then proceed to research dual wielding, weapon and shield, heavy armour etc. Once each area has been researched then your units can switch between each of the weapon possibliities, each of course with its own advantages and weaknesses.

To avoid abuse, simply make it that the unit must be in a city with the appropriate facility (barracks, armoury etc.) to do this, and perhaps make it cost a few gold to switch between arms if this is somehow possible. That way the weapons and armour can't be changed on a whim, but instead should be a deliberate strategic decision for the future.

I have no coding knowledge, but is it possible to piggyback off of the system used to change a lower level unit (sworsdman) to a higher level one (musketman), except doing this in respect to promotions?

In Civ IV upgrading units requires a city with the right facilities and resources, and costs a certain amount of gold (exactly the same system as I have described in my previous post), it just needs to somehow be translated to promotions. Then create a constant upgrade loop for all weapon promotions if the requirements are present (like getting Combat II but then still having Combat I as an option to upgrade to), so weapons and armour can be constantly swapped around for all units.
 
I was playing this Mod when it crashed, i have the newer Beta version. It said something about image wrong size. Am sending a copy of my saved game if that helps???? That was the second crash one before was at 1014 but what i did was go back to a previous saved game and just change what i picked before and it played till 1017 then that when i got this crash at 1017/1018. Hope this helps???:crazyeye:

Sorry, i couldn´t find a proper miniature for an icon of the Spy, but included some ninjas and mounted samurai to make up for that :D

But JP maybe you could check the unitfolders more closly in the future? SZ and I put buttons to any unit created normally, if they're not already there!!!

It's enough work to do, not really necessary doing everything twice like half of the unitbuttons now!! I admit some are better than before but still wondering why putting buttons then in the first place:mad:

I just downloaded StrategyOnly's save and I get a CTD like the one I was getting earlier...
 
@Mr Whisper: Besides the AI, that also would require making quite a few versions of each unit, ex swordsman, swordsman with shield, swordsman with light armour, swordsman with light armour and shield, etc...
It's not really feasable at this time :(

@StrategyOnly: Weird, did you DL the one I uploaded yesterday? Is it a new game since then (ie you didn't start a game, DL the new version and load your game?) I'll look at it when I get home from work tonight

@Ploe: I never noticed the buttons in the folder before! Wow I feel dumb... I'll try and get a patch done tonight...

@Duke Van Frost: Those are perfect! I've sent you another list...this one with no units, cuz I don't know what's been done or not yet...:D (sorry again Ploe and SZ!) How 'bout this pic as spies? (My favorite Mordheim model that I have is the guy on foot...)

Strange, anyone else having a problem with this? It might be your version of civ... (is it 1.52?) or your computer...
(PS working on a tech tree, hope to have a preliminary version up for you guys to rip into tommorow, but maybe not, 2 huge homework assignments due monday and tuesday, plus I have to go home and rebuild my mom's computer tommorow :p...)

I like the models for a spy. I think they are not that hard to create and have already made a start ( walking version not mounted ). Before i forget........i'm now working on a new set for city walls.
 
Hi there, well how should i say that without starting a conflict. The Buttons from Duke, well i really DONT like the ones for the ashigarus, The Rest is ok! i made some when i created the units, and i even included them on the screenshot! So, please use my buttons, cause i like them more (not because htey are from me but they have another style). And like ploepe said, we include the buttons to the unitzips (i didnt do that for the empire, cause you should have same allready, which doesnt mean that i could do better ones if u want others). So here are the zipped buttons for the ashigarus.

Now that you said that i looked up the unit thread.

Especially for the units, because they show stills of the models - so you can instantly recognize the buttons to belong to those units.

Btw: your not starting a conflict. I do those buttons mainly because it´s fun for me - and if somebody
really DONT like
( :cry: ) them, well nobody is forced to use them. I had my funtime, that´s enough for me.

Well maybe next time you could at least say why ;)
 
Downloading the new file now. Probably can't get to a game tonight, but I will on Monday and shall continue to post impressions.

Well I started a game to kill a few minutes while I can and Ancestor Gods was founded on Turn 2. Something has to be done about that still. ;)

Is anyone with the Beta .5 having problems with the Mercenaries Mod? I haven't played in a while (Just got Age of Empires 3) but I can't shake the feeling that we released it with a huge bug...

Well with the last game I played I never got paid, so maybe it's the same thing. I also don't have any experience with the Merc Mod from other games so I don't know how it really works. Maybe I tried it too early in the game. Who knows.

Yeah I got no pay either, but I started selling around when I got Arab Desert Raiders... I also still had where I couldn't offer anymore after I "sold" my first one.
