[BTS] Warhammer FB Version 1.5

Great =) warhammer in civilisation... the idea in itself was nice enough to make me dl the mdo in the first place =P
 
hmm... all of a sudden my game crashed... and then when i tried to start it again (after restarting computer) the game Re-Crashed (if you can say that O.ô) halfway throught the loading... time to dl patch A!

Edit: Oh and one more thing... Im new at civ mods, so... how EXACTLY are patches applied to the mods?
 
unfortunately the game will experience some crashes, because this is still very much a work in progress there will be bugs e have to step on.

hmm regarding the 'patch a' DL, ive ACTUALLY forgotten what file type it is... if it is an installer make it install to the desktop (or some other easy to access file) and then manually move the 'assets' file to the BTS/mods/warhammer file, tell it to copy over all files it asks you to.

the installer should do it for you but i forget exactly the path you should install it to :p
 
Also, make sure that you have installed the BTS patch before trying to install the Warhammer mod, or it probably won't work.

Okay i got the patch stuff and such... but it still shuts down :cry:
does it have any version requirements? or any other requirements? cause ive had a bug with my civ version downloader for a long time: it starts, i let it download all night, NO-THING (and i mean Nothing, AT-All) happens. It gets stuck and doesent move on. BUT, if its the version that i gotta fix to make it work, i know whats wrong atleast... =P

Edit: just saw PL's post, so i know that its the patch i need. (we posted at the pretty same time it seems =P)
Edit 2: Ehm... how is it supposed to "Not Work" if you dont install the patch? cause evrything works totally fine (did i rmb to compliment the pictures and nice starting screen?) until i try to start the game. But THEN it crashes O.ô
 
Okay... this will (probably O.ô) be my last forum post today, BUT! tommorow i declare ALL ON ASSULT(!) on my patcher! no inconnent files will be spared! i will tear it apart down to the last byte! beware patcher! cause i have 376½ Modern Armor* and 7 great generals!

the problems your experiencing are definately due to the latest version of BTS. if your automatic downloader dosnt work you can try [THIS] and if that dosnt work, try googling "Civilization BTS patch 3.17" and find a server that works for you ;)

thanks alot for that :) But does that also install all the patches for warlords and and the original Civ IV? cause i havent been able to patch any of them since i installed BTS (and i recently got a new computer, so i installed all of them right after another. didnt patch the first before i installed the next) and eh... since im used to that patchers to all the stuff by themselves... what do you do when you have downloaded the patch? is there a program you run or something?

Sorry for asking that many questions :blush: but i really didnt know the answer to any of them :crazyeye:
 
Its important to install things in the right order:
Try a clean install of civ, then BTS, then patch 3.17, then the warhammer mod.

One other issue; the Warhammer world scenario map crashes for many Vista users because of the flames map feature. This will eventually get fixed in a new version of the map, or you can manually delete them. Random maps still work fine.
 
okay so... do i have to patch Civ IV or Warlords before i install BTS and 3.17? 3.17 adds all the other patches?
 
so i install civ warlords and BTS, and all i need to dl is patch 3.17? NICE! =D
 
Okay i got the patch... but WTH do i do with it afterwards? my comp says its a 17[1] file (i think its something witht he name...) so i cant open it. got any ideas?
 
I renamed the file to EXE and got it working. the game now works nicely =) exept that all the lizardmen graphics aint working :cry:
thanks alot for the help anyway =) my next resort is to re-install the warhammer mod, since i havent done that since i dled the patch. Its abit strange that its only the Lizardmen graphs that dont work...
Edit: after i reinstalled the mod it gives me a strane error message when i start the mod: something about a marshhollow or something... and that i should check something called triggerinfo. But every works fine apart from that. Guess il go play chaos til we/i find a way to fix the lizardmen bug...
Edit 2: It says MarshSinkHole i think...
 
1:well... the first thing i noticed: ´the technologies do not show a quote or something when i research them. all i get is this: TXT_KEY_TECH_CHRONICLES_QUOTE. that was from Ancient Lore. I noticed the same thing happen with other text messages around the game, though when chatting with other faction leaders the text works. Some/Most (im not sure wich one) technologies do show some proper text. You REALLY need to check the research texts. Metal Casting has a quote from the bible O.ô (dunno if thats intended... but it kinda doesent fit into warhammer =P)
2:I got a event with some animals attacking a farm... or whatever of mine. I had two choices: one that made my city unhappy and made me loose the farm, or one, that made my city bigger... ofcourse i choosed the second one, but as i did that, some animals spawned. that needs to be added to the event thing. BUT! when i tried to attack them i couldnt. they seemed to be neutral to me. (i am playing beastmen). Leter in the game the babarians declared war on me. i think they should be hostile to evryone in the beginning, else it causes some strange problems.
3: This is more a suggestion than a bug: Warlocks (i dont know how it works for other mages) should be able to cast spells on other targets than the square theyre standing in themselves.
4: Some more detailed guides would be nice... i played for alot of time thinking i had founded curruption, but then someone builded shrine of curruption and got it before me. ARGH! So yeah, the mod can be abit mesy at times ;)
5: i were playing with Kislev, and i were trying to found destruction. But after i researched Warrior Code nothing happened. I couldnt build a shrine either. (yes, i had mansonry)

I dont know if you already know about theese bugs, just making notice of them =)
Apart from the things i have added (and probably will add) to this list the only thing the mod needs is more graphic upgraades =D it rocks!
 
1. Yes, the mod isn't finished, there are still various txt_key issues.
2. This is because Beastmen have the barbarian trait, which means you are at peace with the barbarian faction, and only declare war on them once your score rises significantly relative to those of other factions. There are only a couple of leaders with the barbarian trait, its a deliberate bonus for those factions. And as long as you're at peace with the animals you can safely ignore them.
3. This isn't going to happen, its way too hard to get the AI to work. The basics of the spell system are inherited from Fall from Heaven 2; it had a few targeted spells in some very early builds, but this was removed because computer players couldn't use it properly - and the AI is already pretty bad at magic.
Most spells that affect enemies automatically pick a target from an adjacent tile or affect all nearby tiles, so targeting isn't necessary.
4. More documentation will eventually be added. You were the first to get corruption by researching the corruption tech and getting a chaos, but the religious shrines in this mod are buildable wonders, and aren't restricted to whatever city the religion first shows up in.
5. Factions are hard-coded to only work with particular religions. So Kislev, the Empire, Brettonnia, Estalia and Tilea can only adopt Salvation. Kurgan tribes, Hung, Norsca, Chaos dwarves, beastmen can only adopt Corruption. Dwarves can only adopt ancestor gods. etc.
This is deliberate, to keep factions more in flavor. Religions work differently here to how they work in vanilla civ, and though currently under-developed will end up being quite different from each other, in terms of benefits, temples and unit access.
 
Okay =) but it would be nice if i could cast mutation on another unit than the warlock and the units in the same tile... cause that one doesent pick a random enemy =( you COULD use the unitmissile method: a targeted spell summons a unit, this unit then moves onto whatever the target is and BAM! the effect is applied to the target. Thats how the firaball spell worked in Fall From Heaven: Age of Ice.

regarding your initial questions, ahriman covered them all perfectly but ill just add that Pedia entries and tech quotes take up a large portion of time i just dont have, which is why ive asked the public (that means you and any of you other lurkers out there) if you would so kindly share your ideas for these in this forum, and you will possibly (i cant promise anything ;)) see it in the mod :)

also regarding guides: if i were to write a guide for the mod in its current state, i would be rewriting it everytime i made a few changes :p this mod is constantly evlovling so im afraid the final guide will come only when the mod stabalises out a bit. i am working (or will be when i have the time) on getting more Help texts in game and killing a few of the more annoying TXT_KEY entries.

regarding your idea for spell units to cause targeting effects, thats not actually a bad idea... ive ALWAYS wanted spells that could be targeted, but when they were implemented first they cause horrible errors and the AI failed epically at them so they were removed. when im back into moddingthe spells ill definately take a look into that.

EDIT: the only thing i can say (and should have said before) is that there is a HUGE learning curve with this mod and Fall From Heaven II, should you ever try it :) i promise you will find new stuff for months to come. hell, ive been around since this baby took off heaven knows how many years ago, and i keep finding things i didnt know about! just recently i got some wickid events i didnt know exsisted (thanks Orlanth! :p)
