Welcome New Members

Hi all. This long time lurker, who's been playing Civ and it's spin-offs since the first one back in days of yore, finally got round to registering. :)

Hello! Just saying hi to the site. I have to give thanks to my computer for accidentally making me discover this site.

Hi, I play first civ on 286 computers and I am big fan of this game forever. I made also for myself and my friends kind of CIV paper table-game with many units towns..resources(as many another table games). Anyway...I am new into this forum. Going to start play network games and play a bit with editors. I have one important question for me at the begging:

Question by me:

Is it possible to change somewhere in the game parameters that "planet crack like an egg" event ??? I like Next war. I play it now long time on 18 civs/marathon/huge/shuffle..etc...it is very competitive. But when I hit good start and good progress mostly after 1900 computer or me starts to launch nukes, and after few of them game announces "planet crack like and egg" event. In one game it happened and nobody won. And I never won on Next War mod so I want to change that parameter. Is it possible via Python (never changed any parameter ever but it might be not difficult) ???

Thank you.

B-H-Elizabeth I see you have chosen my favorite Celtic lass as your avatar. Oy, how I love the Scotts! I enjoy those wonderful guys, The Gallic Warriors!! Run right into the battle without even their clothes on!! Now that's what I call spoiling for a fight, OY,

How are things in Greece these days? Always did love that part of the world

Hi, new to this forum, civ fan for a while now, only played until recently, would like to try my hand at modding, but need to learn the basics of programming first

Hi everyone! I am 28 and live in Argentina. Just stumbled upon this site because I wanted to download the music for Civ 2 ToT. I played it quite a time ago, but my CD was screwed, so I got a copy from a friend... but without those lovely tracks  I've been browsing the site for a while, and it's like I won an uber jackpot. Btw, ven if I am a long time fan of the Civ series, I didn't even know that there was a remake of Colonization over there :mischief:

Greetings! I love the Civ series, have been playing it on and off since Civ2 came out way back in the... mid '90s was it? Long time ago 'twas, in a galaxy far away, yes?

I keep winning with a super high score by knocking out all my oponents very, very early in the game. But I always get low, low scores when I play longer than the beginning times of civiloization, past medieval times. Any ideas how to fix this? This was the case with both CivIII and CivIV.

Another issue: I need to figure out how to install mods. Help!

And then: I want to design my own mod, have been brainstorming and daydreaming about it. I'll get back to you later on that.

Chow mein,

Moi (Francis)

First of all, Civ 2 was the best :P, must be why you stayed on. :D

The Score system is... odd. in Civ IV. It bases your score on Technology, Population, Land, Wonders and Turn.
The main "point scoring" one is Turn. If you finish the game early, with a conquest or Domination Victory, It loves you. It gives you tjhousands of points, but if you leave it to the end, and win a time or diplomacy victory, it gives you a measly amount of points.
So, if you win after Medieval Era and get a rubbish score, it's because you didn't finish as early as the other times.

I'm assuming you're using Vanilla(Civ IV on its own).
When you've downloaded the Mod RAR, the default you should extract to is "C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Mods", but if you have renamed any of the folders, you will have to put in the respective changes.
Then, when you next open Civ IV, you can click on "Advanced" in the Main Menu and select "Load a Mod..." and select the Mod you want to use to play it. :)

Lastly; Welcome, FrancisDamien

Hi I'm a recent Civ player, a friend introduced me and now I own all the Civ 4 games...some of which aren't even installed yet ;). Why am I really exicted MODing :) Trying out your stuff and learning from you folks how to get my dream projects up and running. I've got ideas coming out of my ears but very little experiance with this game so how do I get started. I've done a little MODing with a few games in the past and I've been playing CIV 4 for a bit over a month. I know its going to take to to learn but CIV 4 may be the only game that has a chance of making some of my favorite worlds come alive and I very much want to experiance it.

Hello and glad to be on board! I have been playing Colonization for both DOS and windows for years and am glad to know that there is a site like this.

Thank you so much!

Anyway - I use BtS - I am not sure what you mean by Vanillla, unless by that you mean Civ4 without Warlords or BtS. There is a Mod folder in BtS. If I save an RAR to desktop, do I then cut-n-paste it to the Mod folder? How come when I right click on a RAR folder it does not give me th option to extract?

If you have downloaded the updates the game shuts down...? Sorry, but I cannot help you; but I am not surprised. I play BtS, and when I try to download the updates, an error message shows. Maybe someone can help both of us. On behalf of us both, I scream HELP!!!

Welcome both of you :)
and please post your problems with a more extensive description in the Civ4 Tech Support Subforum - I'll be glad to help but this is too vague and this thread is not really good for tech support :)

Try downloading the patches from a website, not from within the game. The in-game update centre has been known to be a bit bugged from time to time.
