What Are You Reading, Again?

The Way You Wear Your Hat: Frank Sinatra and the Lost Art of Living is the current book I'm reading. :)

Reread 'The Book of Jhereg' by Steven Brust and am rereading the other titles in the series, today 'Taltos'.

Good tip for fans of dark fantasy with a humorous twist. Vlad Taltos is a human ('Easterner') assassin in the realm of Faerie.. though it's seldom called that. Very well thought out and fun to read.

Good taste there! When you've read all the books (if you haven't already) you might want to join the mailinglist at dragaera.info :)

You might also describe the Vlad books as hard boiled detective stories set in a really special fantasy world. :)

I'm having some evil communist fun with Max barry's Jennifer Government :)

The Shield of Achilles - by Phillip Bobbit.

It is a tome of sorts. But I am liking it. It is developing a theory on how nation states are evolving into what he defines as market states. Very interesting. I would recommend it to all people interested in history and politics.

I stopped reading books when I realised that...Oh never mind.

Tell us, tell us the secret!!

(As for me, I'm just getting back into William Blake. I also picked up The Problem of Pain by C.S. Lewis. I may not even read it though: as a theologian, he hasn't really stood up to some others I've read.)

I am reading COCHRANE - BRITANNIA'S SEA WOLF by Donald Thomas.

I've wanted for a long time to read about this Scottish Naval Hero and to be honest I'm on a rollercoster ride, from amazement at his achievement to absolute detestation of all those corrupt people in the establishment that prevented him from achieving more.

I am certain to be reading alot more books about this particular gentleman and I'm sure to relate some of what I learn to fellow civfanatics in the History Forum.

I'm also reading "Peace Kills - Americas fun new Imperialism" by P J O'Rouke which is less fun that "Holidays in Hell", but far more relevant. I like his humour and his view on World Politics :)

He's a cool dude.

To Nobodaddy
Why art though silent & invisible
Father of Jealousy
Why dost thou hide thyself in clouds
From every searching Eye

Why darkness & obscurity
In all thy words & laws
That none dare eat the fruit but from
The wily serpants jaws
Or is it because Secrecy
Gains females loud applause?

I love the kind of poet who can love God and be angry at him at the same time.

I just finished Lés Miserables for English. I don't have time to read outside of school, but we read a lot for English and the books are good so it is okay. I will probably read Beowulf in the summer. I would start it now but I don't have time.

If you do read Beowulf, do take the time to read Grendel by John Gardner which is the story from the monsters point of view...it is excellent and really funny as the monster perceives Beowulf as just plain mad.

A good read, though quite brief ;)

Thanks! I've already read them all once, now I'm rereading them. I'll look into dragaera.info, sounds good.

Well, I saw a couple of ringworld books in the library I never heard of, so I'm starting the ringworld series again. It's been a long time since I've read them....it's almost like a new book.

Also reading California Gold, by John Jakes.
