What are your favorite types of socks?

In honor of lurker Anny R's outing, I'd like to discuss socks.

Personally, I love those little ankle length white cotton socks. I wear them with everything except my cowboy boots, which I wear with knee high socks. Even when wearing dress clothing of some sort, I'll wear the ankle length socks under the dress socks.

Calf/Knee length white tube socks, which I then shove down to the tops of my shoes.

But I wear dress socks more than the tube socks. Don't like them very much. Except for the dress socks I have that are almost tube socks.

I was dressed in 'Dad Chic' the other day. Shorts, t-shirt, and black socks. My kids were so proud!

Meh, i wear the socks i find first on my bedroom wall, that fall back down to me when i chuck them at the ceiling... if they stick, i know there good for a wash.

Not at all. I think this is a great topic for discussion. For example, Turner's comment about wearing the calf/knee length socks and pushing them down was interesting because I tried that once but found it most uncomfortable with that big bundle of material around my ankle. I'm curious as to whether he was uncomfortable with it at first and just got used to it, or liked it from the start (so fess up, Turner!)

My wife seems to collect seasonal socks with little reindeer (Xmas) or bunnies (Easter), she's much more into socks than me.

But in the winter, nothing beats a nice warm pair of wool socks to keep the cold out.

Dockers calf crew socks. They are soft, don't wear out fast, come in nice colours and the elasticity is top notch.

Well. This is difficult to follow Bozo's post with, but anyway, casual black socks are my staple, but I have many dress socks which are varying shades of black, blue, green, and beige.

True. My sock drawer is full of simply black and navy (which is so dark it may as well be black). Note that this is just as much for the reasons Bozo mentions but also for what I call "The Kubrick Factor". When Stanley Kubrick was working on a film, his wardrobe was made up entirely of either black or white shirts, black pants, black shoes etc. Reason? So he wouldn't waste time with something so trivial as deciding what colour socks to wear that day.

It's taken me all day to get here, but I must say I'm honored to have my very own thread! And such a weighty issue too!

I'm pretty eclectic when it comes to socks , I like having variety, but I also don't want to think about socks that long. So I have lots of plain white cotton, or darks especially for work, with a generous dollop of crazy colors and a few designs if I'm in a "stylin" mood. I'm not stuck on a particular length as long as they don't cut off circulation, and go with the weather. And men, I recommend you STAY AWAY from nylon stockings if you can, they are AWFUL. (to wear that is)

I could not care less about socks !!!!!! ... I wear only black socks! ...I have a pair of mickey mouse socks I love alot .... there are so comfy!!!!!

White socks that are calve length are good for sports, and slightly below the ankle socks are good for casual activities.

I do wear odd socks sometimes. Or at least I did when I was living on my own and didn't really care about matching them. Was good fun, though it did confuse some folk.

I wear coloured socks, (so what? any problem?) And I don't spent much time thinking what colour to choose. I just choose socks that are of the same colour as the pants I am going to wear.
