What civs do you want in Civ 5 - Updated list

also, i forget if kazakhstan's in here yet, but they'd be interesting, since there aren't really any central asian civilizations and they're probably unique enough.

There's already Almaty, and I'd say most City-States are qualified to be civs. There's a long waiting list, though, and Kazakhstan isn't anywhere near the top of my list.

there are obviously some returns i'd like to see, since i've talked about them enough, but i'd really like to see something new instead of all of the same old stuff.

meh. tibet's fine as it is in the game already, a city-state. and i wouldn't really lose any sleep if they took that out. i wouldn't really say they're all that unique compared to either china or india, which they'd be sandwiched between. kazakhstan probably isn't much more important, but at least there's a bigger gap between western china and european russia.

I think Iran is already represent in the game by Persians. anyway, if i want to suggest a civilization, should i suggest ua,uu and ub too?

Well,I guess I can try to choose a ua,uu and a ub for Brazil:
(edit) Leader: Don Pedro II
(edit)Cities:Brasilia,Rio de Janeiro,São Paulo,Salvador,Belo Horizonte,Manaus,Curitiba,Recife,Porto Alegre,Cuiába,Fortaleza,Belém do Para,...

UA:Miscinegation:When Invading a Barbarian encampment, there is a chance to add +1 Population to the smallest of your cities and be friendly to a city states gives +1 happiness(be allied gives +2 happiness)
UU:Brazilian army doesn't have a special unit, but Many people suggest Jungle Brigade, that is one of the best jungle combat units in the world. guess it fits well and it can replace infantry or rifleman.

I think the worst part was the ua,but I'm not sure about a second uu or a ub(soccer stadium or sambodromo is a kind of stereotype of brazil). [edit]guess a expert in brazil's history can help to choose a second uu or even a ub.

(edit) Start Bias:Plains around Hills and Jungles.

UB: Soccer (Football) Stadium: Replaces Stadium, No Maintenance, +5 Gold

This Idea sounds overpowered, because Soccer Clubs in brazil doesn't give a lot of money to the goverment. I might suggest 2 ub:

Palacio do Planalto(Palace of the Highlands): Replace normal Palace. Gives +2 culture per turn and give points to generate a Great engineer. why "Palacio do Planalto" gives points to generate ge? first,it was planned by a architect(Oscar Niemayer) and with the city of brasilia,it's recognized as a world heritage site by UNESCO,just like many world wonders.

Since there are many stereotypes in this game,Sambodromo might be a good idea of ub. It replaces Opera House and gives 2 specialists slots, instead of one. or it gives 2 happiness. I choose Opera House, since Sambrodomo would become avaliable when you research Acoustics.

i wouldn't go with replacing the palace, since that would technically be a national wonder. maybe a castle instead.
but yeah, sambodromo would probably be better, though i don't really like just giving it two happiness, since there's already a unique building that already does the same exact thing.
i think i might like a building in the modern era, since there aren't any of those yet, so it could replace the stadium, give a great artist, not require a theater and have either half or no maintenance. this might make it a little unbalanced too, but that's okay because it comes so late in the game. i basically combined the ideas you guys had and then added the no theater.
tons of people would probably complain about the timing of the unit and building, but that's why you make them powerful.

I've researched about carnival in brazil. It's impressive how many ways they have to celebrate this date and sambodromo is only one of them. they have a kind of music march along the streets, just like venice, but with much more diversity and masks are optional(if you don't wish to wear a fancy dress or a mask,no problem). I don't think the game can represent this diversity well.

the game doesn't have to represent everything, though. i mean, take a look at america. no economic or cultural bonuses, even though some of the things we're best known for are money and spreading our culture one way or another.
what do they represent instead? well, the first president is in there. the ability is manifest destiny, which was obviously pretty important to westward expansion and it also makes me think of the lewis and clark expedition. minutemen were ready to fight at a moment's notice, they're represented. and then we get a famous warplane.
we have two unique units, so they represented the fact that we tend to get into a lot of wars, but even that's not complete because there's only so much they can put into the game.
and that's just the united states. you could also get into india, mongolia, or any of the other civilizations known for having lots of diversity.

Marduk, have you seen the Finnish civ I posted here a few pages back?

Yes, I saw it in the first page in Pouakai’s list. Lend the idea for Sissi there, but sorry I missed the discussion about Finland starting from page 10 post 192. Just read it now. Good ideas and nicely stood up for our civilization there aatami :D What did you think about my ideas?

I think the attributes are fine, but I do echo the concern about influence. For much of its history, Finland was controlled/dominated by other powers. Since World War I when they gained independence, the result has been mixed. The height was fighting the Soviet Union to a standstill, which was impressive, but you also have to keep in mind that, during this period, the Soviet Union expanded their influence over most of the rest of Eastern Europe, which was more impressive. Then you have to consider that the adoption of a policy of neutrality during the Cold War, which, while admirable from a real world perspective, doesn't do much in a historical perspective of including the dominant, influential Civs of the time. They've raised their standard of living and often win lists related to that, but this isn't the same as being a world leader for their "golden age.".

Yes, Finland’s history is very much forgotten novadays, even for the Finns themselves. Thanks for this go mostly to the Swedes and also Russians, but sadly much damage has been done by the Finnish politicans too. Making us to forget our roots. If you click all the links in my post 313 (which are plenty) I’m sure everyone will get a better idea about Finnish history, people and Kalevala.

I chose Mannerheim to represent Finland because he is the only Finnish president I look up to. Of course his achievements during wartime speak for themselves. My idea for the Finnish civilization was to make it represent more ”beyond borders” view ie. civ of Finno-Ugric people. Though the capital would be Helsinki and all citynames from Finland.

I'm worried that they weren't influential enough compared to other possible civs.

Since J.R.R. Tolkiens Lords fo the Rings saga is based on Finnish culture – Kalevala, what else is even needed!? :D

Considering that Finns once ruled most of Scandinavia and what is todays western Russia and Estonia. Have thousands of years history, although most of the early history was memorized in oral form – sung – (Runonlaulaja) and early written form was written in rind (bark) in runic writing. And thus most of it hasn’t survived to these days. Not to mention during Swedish occupation many early Finnish texts were burned or confiscated. I would say Finland is the most influential of all Scandinavian civs. I can understand more favoured romanticed view of Viking/Norse to represent Scandic people and thus Denmark in the game, but as Finland stands for whole other kind of take on Scandinavia it definitely deserves to be in the game. Again remember Finno-Ugric origin, entirely different background than rest of the Scandinavians. Also it has never been in Civ games so would be exciting new civilization to play with :)

It has been my dream and hope, as a avid Civilization fan/player for twenty years that one day there would be official (by Firaxis) Finnish Civilization in the game. I haven’t given up my hopes yet, but if the best (closest) thing we get is Austro-Hungary to represent at least a bit of Finno-Ugric people I would be happy too. Seems like over at the 2K Forums Austo-Hungary has been somewhat popular and reached good points in polls. At least it would much much better than Sweden representing Finnish people!
