Trying to imagine civs with excellent synergys for a team game. For example could you imagine running into an army teamed together with England and china. One line of melee units with chokunus behind them and longbows behind that. Pair with china's great generals and England sotl and that is pure devastation.

Or imagine a team of hunnic battering rams and Assyrian seige towers.

What interesting team strategies can u come up with?

I once had a city state give me longbows while playing as China. I had Mt Kilimanjaro in that game too, so it was basically awesome.

The Roman empires might have an interesting synnergy, as Byzantium can go tall at the start to get an early religion, while Rome can expand a lot to create a lot of pressure for it. That's more for the flavor though.

America/Shoshone could have an interesting synnergy, with Washington scouting out the lands quickly, and the Shoshone gobbling up the territory and ruins.

Brazil/Byzantium or or Brazil/Ethiopia for awesome late game religious happiness benefits

Germany/Zulu with raging barbarians to make 1 upt too small. Germany/Ottomans with raging barbarians probably still wouldn't be amazing, but that's a lot of free units.

Babylon/Korea if you want to be an era ahead of the rest of the world.

Morocco/Venice or Morocco/Portugal to make their UAs even better.

Netherlands/Brazil or Netherlands/Persia is really strong for the easier golden ages

Siam/Polynesia to discover all the city states and free friend them really early

Sweden/Sweden for the lols and extra great people

i would want a strong Warmonger + strong Sci. maybe England (for the UU's and spies) + Korea. whoever the two are, the Warmonger essentially treats the Sci as a gigantic CS he has to protect to get the Sci win. in turn the Sci would have the wiggle room to also go Commerce and keep the Warmonger well funded. it also helps their mutual RA's to be strong.

wait wait wait wait ... wait.

ultimate Cheaty Combo 2013: Sci/Dom SuperFriends! (Korea/Assyria)

Assyria: "When a city is conquered, gain a free Technology already discovered by its owner. Gaining a city through a trade deal does not count, and it can only happen once per enemy city."

this makes Assyria the only civ in Civ5 that can trade technologies with its teammate, at the cost of a Settler. both players can coordinate a city attack when a crucial Technology is needed and bam... done. guaranteed to royally piss off the other guys in MP

Huns and Mongolia
When the horse archers start losing effectiveness, he gifts his army to his teammate who upgrades them to keshiks and gifts them back :D

Agreed with whoever said Military + Science. This combo works great. One of the main problems with Military strategy is taking too long to win and falling behind on Science, allowing enemies to defend themselves with better units. And one of the main problems with Science is working too much on buildings and gold and eventually getting crushed by a stronger army. Put them togheter, you win.

Indonesia+America, Kriss with good promotion when upgraded to Minuteman = super soldier.

France+Brazil: Diplomatic Vic?

Attila + Khan = Super Scourge of the God?

Germany+Japan = uhm, nvermind :crazyeye:

It depends on what terms you intend to compete on. I wouldn't take England and China because both their special units are ranged and that's like cake on top of a cake. I would take a military Civ like Japan and pair it with a science or trade civ so they will compliment each other. One with good melee units and one with good ranged units but the the units aren't that important since they only last for one era. Tbh, England is a poor Civ imo, because who cares about 1 more movement for ships? You can get that by building the Great Lighthouse. One extra spy is pretty nice but that doesn't come into the game until the Renaissance.

Austria and venice

I see what you're thinking. Both are good at dealing with city states but since Venice can't build cities that player will be hard pressed the whole game and Austria would have to be really expansive to cover the empty ground.

Rome and Ethiopia. Let Ethiopia do most of the fighting, gift cities to Rome and let them use their UA to build a powerful massive empire while Ethiopia stays at one city to keep their bonus against everyone.

Greece & Siam - City/State Heaven!
Or Monte & Shaka, Sejong & Babylon, Russia & Darius for strategic resources, America & Britain for no reason other than a mother should be with her son.

My good friend and I actually do 2v2v2v2 alot!! After many games, one strategy is simply unbeatable. One team is purely science civ, Babylon, Korea, etc, the other player is a very powerful warmongering civ (Zulu, Japan, England, endless possibilities here)

Basically, the warmongering civ relies almost entirely on the science and tech's from the Science civ, because the tech's share between teammates. So you have one player with a huge-teched up army supplied by the science civ conquest the map while the Science dedicated player simply turtles up and goes for a science victory, if for some reason the conquest player can't win on his own, you can fall back on a simple science victory!

I know it's a little different, but I'll try combining two civs to make one super civ.

Hunns and Mongols can make a really deadly cavalry force, horses start MADNESS!!!
Austria and Venice, Venice can make the money, Austria spends it on extra CSs to be in your empire, plus Merchant of Venice, nice combo.
Babylon and Korea......HOLY , THIS ONE WOULD BE AWESOME! The early Great Scientist goes great with Korea's UA, and some scientists, along with faster Great Scientists, meaning more Academies, and Korea's UA gives extra science for that.............this would be the most awesome tech civ ever.
Greece and Siam would be the best diplomatic combo ever, it would be unstoppable.
Arabia and Morocco would be masters of the desert and trade.
Byzantium and Celts would be the masters of religion.
Indonesia and Polynesia would be awesome on the Archipelago map.
England and Carthage will become the ultimate seafaring civ.
China and Assyria, free economic-boosting Paper Makers plus China's UA and Chu-Ko-Nu, Assyria's UA plus UB and UU, great way to combine war and science.
Montezuma and Zulu, put Raging Barbarians on, adopt Honor and go for Military Tradition, you are now the ultimate early game millitary WAR MACHINE!!!!
Germany and Ottomans, the free Prize Ships Promotion and Germany's UA will give you a lot of free units, and pay less for unit maintenance for both your navy and your land army-works perfectly well.

How about 21 Poland's teamed up against you Venice and only victory is cultural who would win. No city-states.
