What color is your country?

This is an objective mehod, so that there is no bias and as such the US is in the top ten of this list.

It is interesting to note that the countries that are generally green are Western Style democracies.

Same here. That means you are either Australian or Norwegian.

hmm the HDI page list things but not the individual numbers......
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_Poverty_Index on the other end of the scale here's the poverty index ..... I wonder what gives norway and the U.S. such a low unemployment rate

Norway, darkest of the greens along with Australia. woot woot!
However, a proper list would show that some non-western countries have both Norway and Australia beat: Brunei, Kuwait, Quatar, U.A.E.
Pretty much the tiny muslim oil countries, they are incredibly wealthy, people don't have to work because they bring in laborers from abroad to work for them.

I think it is because of the wealth created by the Resources boom. Also we generally have a high standard of living and we are only second to Japan as far as average age of death is concerned. Things are pretty good here.

Speaking of which, what got iceland up there too? I know that both Norway and Australia have some resource $ to raise thier standard of living (well, I know now... ;) ) . Does Iceland have oil now...?

I was surpised by the fact that Iceland is so high. We are basically growing off the back of Gold, Iron ore, Copper and just about any base metal, plus we have amassive reserve of Natural gas, so things are looking good, and this is just talking about my State that I live in.

I didn't know Australia was resource rich, but I guess there is bound to be some resources when you have a small continent of your own, and only about 16 million to split the wealth between.

But Iceland is not very resource rich, they are just very smart in making good of what they have. Like they get the energy of the heat from the ground, and they fish alot.

And so do we, but I doubt any of us fish as much as Iceland (population taken into consideration of course), NOrway is actually up there along with Iceland and Japan when it comes to fishing nations.
