Ok you know when you're driving down the road at night, and there are street lights some yellow some white. Which ones do you like the best?

Bloody hell..White.
Those yellow ones just make everything look dirty.Must admit though i prefer none at all.

Yellow ones near residential areas so I can sleep even if there's a huge light near my window. White ones where it matters, like in public spaces, parks, etc.

I voted for white lights, but I'd like red ones too!(they add to make a "romantic" atmosphere............)

I don't see that a red street light would even be effective. As cool as it would look to make street lights in all different colors (blacklights, anyone?), only certain colors would provide the safety that street lights are designed to give. For my money, white is the way to go.

White are easier to see whith, but yellow are more warm (not in temperature, light with more yellow actually looks more warm; that isn't just my opinion).

Hey I just thought of a cool idea... you know how on some highways it's hard to see the lines and signs at night? If they installed little blacklights all along the guardrails and whatnot, they'd glow!

Red streetlights actually would have something to recommend them - illuminating the roadway to some extent while not ruining one's night vision. Wonder why no-one has tried it.....

But, really - my preference is none at all.

Or they could just put reflectors on the lines like they already do.

Myopic-Americans like myself have trouble seeing white street lights. Yellow for me.

Yellow. I have never actually seen (or heard of) white intersection lights, except for the walk/don't walk signs. Are they effective. Anyway, yellow distinguishes the intersection lights from the street lights, which are usually white also.

That's what he was talking about... streetlights. We have yellow ones where I live, more orangy actually. I like em fine.

I grew up used to the yellow ones, but I must say that, now that we have both yellow and white streetlamps around, I find that the yellow ones look "dirty." They also disturb my aesthetic sensibilities -- yellow-orange is one of the ugliest colors in existance.

I kind of like the yellow but for sake of visibility, whites are better, especially when it's so dark up here in winters. Of course, there is no need for lights at all (or at least so little that the headlights will do fine) in summers.

Generally the argue for the yellowish-orangish street lights is that they are easier on the eyes at night whereas the bright white ones tend to fatigue the eyes after a while.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the yellow street lights last longer because of the type of bulb has some type of gas that creates the light or something?
