I tend to picture the avatars as the speaking voice of what the person has posted, except for things like flags. Having a "face" does make them easier to remember, and that's part of the reason I picked mine (which is from the American/Canadian TV scifi show Andromeda, btw).

The lady in the picture is an android and an avatar AI controlling what is one of the most powerful starships in the galaxy in the Andromeda tv series.I know the TV series. I thought she was a hologram though?

She was (and is, the series is still on AFAIK) both a hologram and an android. I'm a fan of Lexa Doig (the actress) only to the extent that she does a very good job of playing that part.
And I don't mind freaking you out a little, in any case...

Well, I've been here a while, but haven't posted enough to get a custom avatar yet. But I like this one. It's the black knight! And nobody else uses this one, so it's pretty unique. I might change it if/when I reach 300.
