What do we want in Civ V?

Wouldn`t the optional gfx thingy make them use 2 different graphic engines? I don`t know any game that offers this, except the Total War series (like I said, I don`t know any, but there probably are).

Logi, there`s a different crowd overthere ;) Can I use your stuff in this list too? :)

I was also thinking of paying a visit to our buddies at the civ1 and civ2 forums, and eventually venture into the lair of Civ4 heretics ;)

Heritics?!?

Blasted Civ 3 fiends! The Amish of the Civ community:D

O.K, I'm just teasing! But along with the ideas that I'm seeing here, I do want a lot of the stuff for Civ IV. There are a lot of good ideas, they just need to work out the kinks. I've been pouring over the threads that I've found here and by Logitech, as well as the one in Civ 4 General Discussions and compiling everything together. Them I am going to sort it out and organize it. If you want, when I am done, I can PM it to you. Might take a little while though.

There is more that I want to do with it as well. But I'll just start with the list for now. ;)

because as seen in the past, it's possible for a spearman to kill a tank...this way it would not even be possible...a level 1 unit would be unable to hit a 3 or 4...

now it is very unlikely, but _possible_...Id like Impossible

example: a horde of 500 Warriors, will eventually bring down ANY unit...by basically, beating on it with sticks...I think sticks should not even be able to damage metal (Lets not even talk "Forcefields" or whatever)

Did you not see Return of the Jedi?

Those Ewoks really stuck it to the Imperial Force.
:D

For you Civ 3 guys,

Things from Civ 4 that should be included (if not already mentioned), Religions (though needs some more ironing out), colonies and vasalage (again, needs some expanding... but can also pave the way for civil wars, etc), and random events (great at breaking up the monotony and for adding a little flavor).

Thorburne: The Ewoks destroyed Scout walkers...not heavily armoured tanks...

they also brought down a small handful of Empire troops, if you are trying to say Ewoks could repel a full invasion with rocks and sticks, you are crazy...

Finally, the Empire has always had the least effective designs for their "units"...Tie fighters are terribly designed, AT-AT walkers are almost a joke, Stormtroopers have no range of vision, ETC...so the idea of muppets with sticks beating them is not a terrible stretch...

[edit] this concludes Spacer One's thread jack

The answer would be more obvious if we had an infiltration unit in the game that could really do the damage and mayhem that an actual insurgent can. Better and more effective booby traps would help. A unit that could take prisoners (hostages) could also be useful everywhere in the game. But what would make things even more interesting would be to have the option of "interrogating" a captured unit. The type of information available would be the same you'd find in the espionage screen. "Rendition" would allow you to transport your captured unit to any territory you control, perhaps to trade in a later negotiation. Torture might be made available, with a cost and culture penalty for each instance, but the information would have a 50% chance of being wrong. Spies and religious zealots would be more torture resistant than others, but spies would know more. I would like to see bribery return. I would like to see "battlefield leaders" whose presence would reduce the possibility of surrender on the battlefield. They would carry maps. I would think that most of this wouldn't be very difficult to add.

i want a feature like in total war were you can either let a battle be decided by the computer or you can command the troops yourself

1. I hate scrolling through my units to get to my seige weapons before my archers. The default order a unit pops up to you would make a large difference in playing experience.

If a unit has offensive bombardment, make it pop up first.
Followed by:
Fast units
Offensive units
Defensive units

Also, units with more HPs should pop up before the same units with less HPs.

2. The AI needs to learn to dogpile -- It's a nice bug to take advantage of, but my army unit really should not be safe sitting right next to an AI stack of doom. The AI should know that if it attacks my army with 3 or 4 units concurrently, it will win.

I dont know if anyone has brought this up yet but heres what I want in the next civ game:

-A poser plug in for units and leaderheads
-Unlimited Culture groups
-City graphics for the culture groups already in game
-Ethnic unit graphics for each civilization.(AKA flavor units)
-More Naval Units(Galleass, Dreadnought, Iron Frigate)
-An editor and simple way to mod without XML coding like in Civ3

How about the ability to transport ships across a continent?? on some sort of trailer...
Eh? That's a bit far out, ain't it? Maybe something like a canal, or a brief jaunt over the Corinthian isthmus, but across an entire continent? Wow!

I dont mean active ships...I mean the ability to load a ship(up to a certain size of course) on a land transport, to move it...For example: you build several boats in a city, only to find out that it is a land locked lake...it would be nice to load 1 boat per transport, to move to another coast...

:hmm: I don't know. It still seams a little unrealistic. One the things I've most wanted for civ though is the ability to build a canal w/o usin the "find where there's just one tile between bodies of water and build a city there" approach. Maybe limit to three tiles max or something w/ the ability to change it in the editor.

its unrealistic to load a ship on a trailer and drive it cross country?? Funny cause thats how they transport Yachts...

Another version

Transporting something over land is possible, but only with small boats up to perhaps 500 ts. In ww2 Germany was able to transfer Type II Uboats and S Boats to the Med and/or the Blakc sea via rail. And when the class 205 Uboat U 9 was decommissioned a few years ago it was brought to Speyer via street. But I can't immagine a Bismarck class BB in Munich or an Iowa class BB in Las Vegas (for the latter I am not sure with you crazy yanks ;))
