What do we want in Civ V?

And A Game that would be so historically correct that u can play it in school.
a scenario in witch the civs evolve and change as thei have don according to history.
And taking into account your input as a player that would not match history

certainly, however I doubt that Firaxis will return to realism any time soon, given Sid Meier describes it as the game he had "always wanted to make". If bubblegum Civ is the standard now I'd rather go slaughter some barbarians in AoC... I shudder at the abomination a "Sid Meier's Colonization" would be, when basing it on the present engine and looks of Firaxis games. Sorry, Sid, but the developers that left the company back amidst Civ3 were at least in part right.
Well you are definitely correct on the graphics. The graphics used for C3C are fine for a strategy game. I think they should devote more time to developing the AI and game mechanics rather than trying to make something flashy that does not improve game play.

Apparently the bean-counting suits don't think that historical accuracy sells to people who are interested in buying historical war(etc.)games. ;)

There are ways to make the graphics flashy, moddable, and historically accurate. Simcity 3 and 4 had beautiful, realistic and moddable terrain. Moreover, their graphics allowed for blinking lights and even day and night modes. Why not seasons?
The historical accuracy part is a particular annoyance to me because we know how these people actually looked. There is a statue of Cleopatra that was made when she was alive that we can look at. Her delicate greek features look nothing like Elizabeth Taylor, yet we always see depictions of her as that femme fatale or as if she were descended from Nubian pharaohs. If I see one more Julius Caesar that looks like Maury Povich I think I'll scream. The owners of this franchise have to be made to understand that the connection between Civilization and the actual events and feel of history is why most people play this game and not Monopoly. It is AFTER that that alternative, fantasy and sci-fi scenarios enhance the game, not the other way around. Your marketing people will try to turn this game into everything else on the market. The only way this game will survive is to be itself, not some Zelda clone.

I completely agree. The problem is, it seems that no one of Firaxis takes notice of our opinions. And it seems they are targeting the civ series at an mentally always lower getting group of customers. They shouldn´t call their new product Civ Rev but Civ Redneck.

I am sure this has been said a few times but

I want the attack and defend point system back, but the promotions could apply too. take the good stuff from both :p

Why we all think this tread helps by the development of Civ V? I dont think so...
I mean...is their any news about a new civ?

Well, they have mentioned a possible Civ5 before. I remember there was an announcement on it, where they said it will probably take a couple of years. But ATM, that is all they've said, probably because they want to get CivRev out before they start on Civ5.

That explains alot...about civ's quality as well as release times.

Granted I dabble in the dark side lol (Civ4 Beyond the Sword's certain mods) I have to say Civ3 has certain aspects, such as ease of modding, that will always have it be my prefered game. I also hate the stupid quotes of the leaders(It took a guy to make a mod to change this), and the exaggerated look in Civ4.

I would like to see this:

Leaders changing by eras (may be hard for new countries like America, but it is more historical), also attitude
or
Leaders changing by government, also attitude
or
at least multi-era HISTORICAL!! clothing for leaders.

and, a different leader for Japan, I am tired of Tokugawa, and Civ never makes a historical Tokugawa, so....

"and Civ never makes a historical Tokugawa, so..."

Good ideas there... on the historical point: Most leaders are portrayed wrongly anyways... Bismarck doesn't look anything like himself... and has always been a poor choice, imo.

Just for your information, I have almost finished to redo my map engine using XNA (meaning : better performances).
then I need to update the unit animation engine, and it shouldn´t take to long...
And then it's back to gameplay...

Steph that sounds good. I think the only way we will ever get an improved C3C is by someone coding an entirely new game. I just pray you put forth the time to really make an intelligent AI.

I want the best from each of Civ 2 (some of those editor flag/functions like "x2 vs. mounted") Civ 3 (including the 2D graphics and the ability to port our many fine gfx over) and perhaps the promotions and religions from Civ4 (hold the corporations please).

Oh yes, Santa, and I would like it to actually work as advertised, have a decent AI, and a very robust editor.

I'd happily pay $100 or so for that.

Best,

Oz
