What does your Nations Flag mean?

I find the UN flag very fitting. Weak-looking and flaccid.

This is Minnesota's flag. The blue represents the color of our 10,000 lakes. The state seal is in the center. Depicted are a pioneer farmer plowing his field and an Indian on horseback. There are three dates: 1819 - the founding of Ft. Snelling which opened up the area to settlement, 1858 - the year it became a state and 1893 - the year the flag was adopted. The state's moto "l'etoile du nord" is on the red ribbon that runs through the seal; the fact that it is in French identifies us as America's fifth column (j/k).

According to the song I had to play too many times while I was still in school...

White = Snow
Blue = Lakes

I suppose the typically Nordic cross is about Christianity... too bad. Maybe there should be a blue and white pentagram :)

Little bit more info on the Maryland state flag

During the Civil War, Maryland secessionists adopted the red-and-white bottony of the Crossland family arms as their symbol. A confederate general, from Maryland, used a red bottony cross on a white field. Federal units used variations on the Calvert yellow-and-black arms. After the end of the war, the combinations of yellow-and-black and red-and-white were identified as Maryland colors. In 1889, the 5th Reg., MD National Guard, a unit which accepted many former rebels as soliders and officers, adopted a regimental flag made of four alternating quadrants of the yellow-and-black Calvert arms and the red-and-white Crossland arms. This was meant to show that former confederates could be both loyal to the Union and their state. After being used many times to represent the state of Maryland, combination flag was adopted as the state flag in 1904.

The Maryland flag should be used to show those idiotic neo-confederate people how to make a flag both both remembers history and doesn't offend people with the "Southern Cross".

The flag is topped by the Union Jack with a gold crown centred in the cross bars, representing British Columbia's colonial beginnings. The waving blue and white lines and the setting sun symbolize British Columbia's geographic position between the Rocky Mountains and the Pacific Ocean.

Hi!

You all thought this thread was dead, huh. Well, no. :)

I like all of your flags. And now, I give you IOWA.

The flag was originally an Iowa regimental banner for our troops.

Iowa's flag colors, similar to France's own national flag, were chosen to signify France's part in what is now Iowa.

The center of the flag depicts a soaring eagle carrying a banner of our state motto, "Our Liberties We Prize, and Our Rights We Will Maintain."

Cool, Mr. Black! I hail from Iowa, and I think we have a pretty good flag as far as state flags go.

Indiana:

The official state flag of Indiana was adopted in 1917. It was designed by Paul Hadley of Mooresville, Indiana; he won a flag design contest sponsored by the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) for Indiana's 100th anniversary of statehood in 1916. There are 19 golden stars on a blue field. The 13 stars in the outer circle represent the 13 original colonies of the United States of America; the 5 stars in a half circle represent the states admitted prior to Indiana (but after the original 13), and the larger star atop the flame of the torch of Liberty represents Indiana.

heres one about Indianapolis:
The flag's design is basically a rough sketch of downtown Indianapolis. The flag is very new, maybe only 10 yrs old or so. The large white star represents the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, and the fact that Indianapolis is the state capitol. The white circle and the red field within it depict the Monument Circle area of the city. The color red also signifies "the driving energy and urge for progress that has made the City of Indianapolis race ahead." The four white stripes, each at a ninety-degree angle to the circle, now represent North and South Meridian Streets, vertically, and East and West Market Streets, horizontally. The four quadrants of dark blue symbolize the residential areas of the city. the colors of the flag - red, white, and blue- also the colors in the U.S. national flag, are symbolic of the citizens' patriotism.

the thirteen red and white stripes were from the original 13 colonies. there are 50 stars and each one represents one state in the union.

didn't we revolt against Mexico before 1863, since we were admitted into the union in 1849. plus, the USA gained California in the Mexican-American War. but we were independent for a little while.

Just like the object it resemples. Earth is fragile, and Humanity (at least the part of it that likes to see itself as representative of the race) is decadent.

hmm, well, it was the flag used in the independence war aka 80-year war against Spain from 1568-1648. Nowadays the top banner is red though, it used to be orange.

Romania's flag is pretty straightforward:

3 colors, from the flagpole: blue, yellow, red

red is the blood spilt by the brave soldiers
yellow are the ripe fields of wheat
blue is the color of the sky, and symbol of freedom

The flag dates from the 15th, 16th century, but has only been standardized after 1848.

And here it is:
