Parliament of 2032

The past four years has been one of chaos in all theatres of Madagascan life. The devastating Maputo War has rocked this country to the core; economically, socially and politically. To anyone paying attention to current events, the backlash against the Madagascan Tory Party is completely unsurprising. The Madagascan National Socialist Party has won a historic landslide, while this should grant them a short honeymoon period the problems facing Madagascar are not going to go away overnight. The National Socialists must work hard to bring the nation back from the brink of economic and social collapse, else we may lose the fundamental Madagascan values that we hold dear. Despite the poor showing of most extremist candidates, they still hold sway over large portions of our people and they threaten to tear this country apart. This newspaper implores her readers, no matter what political opinions they may hold, to help the new government rebuild this nation. We must pray for a miracle, we must help them build a miracle. For we very may need a miracle to keep this country from ruin.

Madagascan National Socialist Party

2031 Seat Total: 5 Seats
2032 Seat Total: 19 Seats

Formerly the strongest opposition party, the Madagascan National Socialist Party has won the 2032 election in a landslide. Founded in 2028 by the newly elected Prime Minister Tovonanahary Rabetsitonta, they aim to implement a socialist economic and governance system while maintaining the cultural and religious practices that they deem non-oppressive. While the MNSP initially supported the Maputo War, when the war began to destabilise the country and lose popular support they became one of the loudest voices for peace. Their initial support for the war cost them in parliament, losing one seat to the White Nationalist Socialist Party and another to the Madagascan Communist Party.

The MNSP has won the election in a record landslide, gaining 19 of the 28 seats in the Madagascan Parliament. While many of these gains can be attributed to the growing popularity of National Socialism in Madagascar, interestingly many of the new MNSP voters don’t necessarily identify as National Socialists. Many disgruntled anti-war Tory voters voted for MNSP, seeing them as the only viable alternative to the Madagascan Tory Party, as the Madagascan Whig Party was still seen as disorganised after their shocking 2028 election results and the other parties were seen as too extreme. The MNSP also managed to retake the seats they lost to the Madagascan Communist Party (who refused to rerun for election as they believe that the parliamentary system is inherently corrupt) and the White Nationalist Socialist Party (whose second seat was in a black-majority area with a white candidate who defected).

“I thank the Madagascan people for their wholehearted endorsement of our party.” Prime Minister Rabetsitonta said in his victory speech. “Over the four years, my party and I will rebuild Madagascar. We will repay the many debts that Madagascar owes and we will implement a world class social welfare program designed to help families recover from the devastation of the Maputo War. Most importantly, we will help bring Madagascar together once again and turn this country into one that past and future generations can be proud of.” When asked if he was going to attempt to implement some of the MNSP’s more radical policies, such as dissolving the monarchy, he said that it was not a priority for the next four years. “We must repair the damage done by more than a decade of Tory mismanagement before we can bring truly transformative change to this country.”

Madagascan Tory Party

2028 Seat Total: 17 Seats (1 Appointed)
2031 Seat Total: 15 Seats (1 Appointed)
2032 Seat Total: 4 Seats

Oh, how the mighty have fallen. The Madagascan Tory Party has gone from being the largest party in Parliament with 18 seats to only having four seats. This is not an unsurprising result for anyone paying attention, the Maputo War (which the Tories supported up until the bitter end) was extremely unpopular. While they attempted to separate themselves from the extremely controversial Rasanjy Administration by appointing a new Prime Minister, Rakotonandrasana Rajaonarivelo, who was known for his strong critique for the Maputo War, they could not fully escape their association with the war. The resignation of Prime Minister Rasanjy may have made the situation even worse for the Tories, Rajaonarivelo was seen as illegitimate and thus could not bring an incumbent’s advantage to the election. Despite a brief popularity surge after the reclaiming of Deigo Garcia, Rajaonarivelo was not popular enough to win the election.

Despite the incredible loss, Rakotonandrasana Rajaonarivelo has remained the head of the Madagascan Tory Party. He appears to still be hopeful at his chances of regaining the trust of the people. “I hope that even in our position of weakness,” Rajaonarivelo said in his concession speech “that we will be able to regain the people’s trust in the ideals and values of the Tory Party.”

Madagascan Whig Party

Colour: Pink
2028 Seat Total: 1 Seat
2031 Seat Total: 1 Seat
2032 Seat Total: 5 Seats

Perhaps the biggest surprise this election was the surge in support for the Madagascan Whig Party. Their newfound votes mainly came from Tory voters who were dissatisfied with the Tories, but could not bring themselves to support the National Socialists. Little has been heard out of the Whig camp so far, but there are rumours that they have entered negotiations with the Tory Party to negotiate how exactly the opposition will be managed.

Other Parties:

Many new parties have formed over the last four years, but their presence in Parliament has been largely reduced. The Communist Party did not even bother to contest their seat, while the White Nationalist Socialist Party lost one of their seats due to enraged black voters. The Restoration Party on the other hand has gained a seat, largely due to the collapse of Tory hegemony over the Madagascan right. While these minor parties have little influence over Parliament, they still hold sway over many hearts and minds in Madagascar. While they may not have influence in the halls of power, they may instead begin to project their influence in the streets with violence. We can only hope that Prime Minister Rabetsitonta will be able to reign in the influence of these radical groups and restore peace to our great Kingdom.

Government establishes National Public Radio
In recent years, the radio set has spread across the country from households to local taverns and workplaces. Whether in major cities or small villages most people own or at least have regular contact with this newest invention. Already radio stations from the Church sponsored Radio Maria to more commercial stations such as Radio Metropolitana or Radio Boa Vista that broadcast music, serials or news. The government has decided to step in with the creation of National Public Radio (Rádio pública nacional) and named Bruna Muggia, a veteran of the stage, as Director. Unlike other stations, RPN will have news programs in the morning, noon and evening devoted to more in-depth reporting similar to many newspapers. RPN will also invite musical, theatre and cultural groups from across the country to show the cultural diversity of Brasil. The Ministry of Education is also working with the Ministry of Education to prepare 'On-Air Classrooms' in the afternoons for correspondence students who cannot attend traditional classes due to illness, distance or other factors.

When asked if such a diverse program is too much for the young station Muggia was confident. 'We have already received requests from all varieties of groups to come on the air. While this is ambitious I think we are learning very quickly. Being in the theatre teaches you to prepare for the unexpected and develop many skills. We shall show not only Brasil but the continent what we can do!

The Ghost of McEnery: on the rebirth of Louisianian democracy
As is customary on this day of national celebration, the Acting President himself will make an appearance in St Louis for the traditional hoisting and lowering of the flags of Louisiana. His altering of the ceremony to include five flags, the first time a new flag has been added since independence, has been the cause of much controversy in Missouri but it also marks the beginning of a new chapter in Louisianian history. When President McEnery gave his renown declaration of independence speech 148 years ago he promised to protect the freedoms and liberties of all in the wake of the Fall, and now after three decades under the Blanchard regime we appear to be back right where we started with our new leadership promising the revival of democracy yet again. Can we do right by old McEnery this time or are his ideals an experiment doomed to fail? Something to think about as we watch the five flags fly over Louisiana today.

The Andean Pope would of course be more than willing to enter negotiations with the Independent Catholic Church of Louisiana.

To clarify the headline (since the entire article wasn't included), the Independent Catholic Church of Louisiana itself will remain independent from both Rome and Cuzco for the time being. A union of Catholic congregations in the Guiana states have however decided to break away from the Independent Catholic Church due to comments by the Archbishop of New Orleans which have been interpreted as pro-Roman, and now wish to enter into communion with the Andean church.

The Guianans will be welcomed with open arms.

Democrats, Popular Labour take majority

A week ago Brasilians went to the polls and have placed the PTP and Democratic party in majority position in the Assembly and Sentate. The PTP won over thirty six percent of the vote which turns into twenty three Assembly and nine Senate seats. Second was the Democrats with twenty eighteen percent of the vote leading to eighteen Assembly and seven Senate seats. The Imperials dropped to third place with twenty two percent with fourteen Assembly seats and no gains in the Senate. The Corporatists have become the fourth major party with fourteen percent and a massive gain of nine Assembly and three Senate seats. Already the Democrats and PTP announced the formation of a People's Coalition (Coligação Popular) to work together in the legislature, rumors abound of even the Corporatists joining but nothing has been confirmed. Total turnout for the election was sixty eight percent, roughly the same level in 2028 and slightly higher than 2024.

This has been the first election that has been broadcast over the radio with all candidates addressing rallies up to election day along with advertisements on the radio and in cinema halls. Both leaders of the PTP and Democrats address crowds yesterday calling for all Brasilians to 'join together and forge a New Direction' while the Imperials announced they would become the Official Opposition and 'guardian of Brasilian values'. The Empress also met with all party leaders and accepted the results from the Electoral Commission. The new Assembly will be formed after the beginning of the new year with a swearing in of new members.

In the most surprising, and unfortunately irritating, turn of events, I am calling an end to this game. Was hoping that the rule changes and pushing out the new update would get my juices flowing again, and they did, but not very long. It was a blast, and the game last a surprising amount of time even if we just forget the whole month hiatus.

(Please don't hate me).

I hate you. :(

Sad to see it go, but it was a fun one. Thanks Sone.

I had so much stuff ready. I had a five-year m8ilitary expansion plan, and fancy division templates to base my buildup on. Gaze upon them!

I was so looking forward to developing Light Tanks and Light Cruisers. :(

EDIT: In case it's not obvious I don't really hate you, I say that all the time to mean 'but of course I couldn't hate you'. I understand it's probably about all the horsehockey that's happened and all, I'm just putting out the stuff I made and sharing the plans I had for all to see.

I just hope some day you'll come back to this, but I can see why you'd lose your motivation with it.

Nah man its okay, considering all the horsehockey you have gone through recently its amazing you got another update out at all. It was a really awesome game regardless and I can't wait to see what comes next. :)

On a related note, is there any chance Black Comedy will start up again? Its okay if it doesn't, for the same reasons as above.

Very fun while it lasted! I liked the economic ruleset.
