With all teh pre-release excitement going on, only a few people seem to think that anything could possibly be wrong with it. But, what if the games bad? What if it makes people look away in shame, and causes wailing and gnashing of teeth? Then what are you going to do? (Other than burn down Sid's house, of course. )
But, what if the game is really great?
OMFG, What would all the naysayers do? They would be limited to saying that the game is bad because -- they don't LIKE it!!
I've already got a dumb-*ss game. It's called Rise of Nations.
my thoughts are simple, civ3 was pretty much as good as *they* were willing to go. I believe that modding capability is the prime reason the game has thrived for so long, but anyway... what could they put in civ4 that they couldn't put in a set of civ3 game patches & updates!? I admit that i'll probably buy it when its £5.99 in the shops. but i dont think that its going to be an instant fab, so to speak. Personally, i'll probably buy it, play one game and say... i could mod those functions to be better........... and then spend weeks civing through forums like this fine forum, trying to get the game to exactly what i want it to be. Like i've been trying to do with civ3 ever since it was released. even now, i'm trying to make it 'the perfect civing' just as civ4 is being released. I hope its worth the money & i hope its worth the excitment.
I will write a really, really ugly letter to Firaxis' PR office, stating how long I am a faithfull civ player, how upset I am with how the new game turned out to be and that I want recompense. Then I will sell my original on eBay.
2 Month later I will probably write another letter to the PR office thanking them over and over again that I got my rl back and a happy relationship because their game sucked.
originally i was bumbed out that my current system would not handle the new game...but becuase of questions like this...im actually happy..i get to here first hand from all of you before i go a spend 50 dollars..but im sure that like all other CIV'ish games(call to power, smac, civ1,2,3) im sure i will play them..and be addicted ...despite any short comings.
