What if the game is awful?

i cant imagine the game could be so bad i'd not play it.
but it was i'd probably just go play the new expansion for rome total war

Seeing as alot of people are commenting on how Civ4 seems to be copying alot of features from SMAC, if Civ4 ends up sucking I guess I'll try to buy me a copy of SMAC. If the new features are a failure in Civ4 but a success in SMAC then I must conclude that it is a matter of implementation and not faulty concepts.

If you haven't played SMAC, you should definitely try it. One of my favorite games of all time and a worthy successor to the Civ series.

The only thing that makes me worry is that the traits seem to be more "different" from the "non trait" specifications, which is going to lead the way to play depending on the leader you have chosen. That could be good, since you have to cook different strategies to win depending on the traits. But, on the other hand, I am worried that there will be a leader way more powerful than the others. i hope the beta testers have balanced everyting.

Altough you can always mod it and turn the traits off. I suppose.

i apolagise for the side-track, but what does SMAC stand for?

If Civilization turns out bad in some way, I will consume it.

I think it's safe to say that Civ4 will be highly addictive.

The hands-on previews alone guarantee this won't be like MOO3.

Oh, god, what a sad, sad day that was. I took those three discs and had them spread to the far corners of the Earth so that I would never be reminded of the sadness and disappointment.

But, MOO brings up another point. For all its changes, MOO2 was still not as good as MOO1 (given its time)...so, will Civ4 surpass Civ3? How would we rank the individual members of the series anyway?

Ah, who cares...right now I'm just trying to figure out a way to keep from wasting the better part of 2006 on this game. I find myself wishing CivAnon was real. I really am an addict.

It's not going to be bad, that's for sure. :) In fact, GameSpy just wrote this in their latest preview:

After hours of play and several games, we've come to a few conclusions about the next Civilization. Not only is it going to be one of the best PC strategy games of the year ... it's actually in the running to be one of the best Multiplayer PC strategy games of the year. Firaxis is working hard to slap a final coat of polish on this sucker -- we can't wait to get our hands on the final version!
