What if you were Russian in 1942?

Would you still fight?

By the end of the war, the Soviets were actually decently equipped. I would much rather be in the airforce or navy than army.

I'd fight, but I'd also ask myself the question: "What the hell are you doing in the Soviet Union?"

The Russian army didn't have a very high life expectancy either. It was a choice between running towards a machinegun emplacement, or getting a bullet in the back from an NKVD blocking squad.

20 million Soviets died during WWII, compared to the cumulative total of every country in WWI being 16 million.
Still, i'd rather be attacking an enemy than waiting for the Nazi's to shoot me in the back of the head.

The Nazis would shoot you in the front, the Soviet NKVD would shoot you in the back.

As late as 44 during the fighting for Vinnistu. Russians sent in Cossak calvary in a head on suicidal charge.

No artillary
No Amour
No Support
Directly over a German mine field
No survivors

Sole purpose was to clear the German mine field. The Russians were careful enough to prevent the Germans from relaying the mine field. Not really much of a choice
