Hey Everyone!

I thought it would be nice to get a list of everthing that Civ I is better than...

I suppose it could be anything but let's try to keep it clean. I thought of my own top three...I suppose you could have more, but three is preferred.

I think Civ I is better than:

1. Downloading shareware
2. Hacking your sister's computer start screen to say, "Civ Rules! Sisters are fools"
3. Winning an argument with your wife or girlfriend (unless the argument is to play civ, then again that goes without saying).

These are clearly just off the top of my head. I might revise them as time goes on.

Let's hear from the masses...what is Civ I better than!

Civ1 is better than no Civ at all. ;)

It's better than a root canal.

It's better than a day in traffic school.

Hmm....I see much potential for spam here. Let's try and keep it to a minimum, okay? ;)

Civ1 Dos version I presume?

Better than WinCiv. Better than CivNet (well for single player anyhow!)

Definately better than CivII, CivIII, and (probably - I havent tried yet) CivIV.
Its better than Colonization (though I did love the ship unit gfx in that), and better than Alpha Centauri.

Its even better than Elite (including the BBC Micro and Archimedes versions).

Better than any of the Sim City versions.

I can think of a few other things too, but you said to keep it clean so Ill leave them out... ;-)

Indeed the only thing that has the potential to be better than Civ1 Dos is Civ1 Amiga - except that the Amiga version of Civ1 is unplayably slow for some reason, or at least it was back on all my Amigas in the 90s when they still worked. (Better because it lacks the population bug and the gfx is a little nicer but still very much Civ1 style). One day when I have a really really fast PC I might try it out again under an emulator and see how I go.

(Actually Ive heard the mac version was good too, but I havent had the opportunity to try that one).

Yes,

This is so cool...of course I was thinking of CivDOS...(I didn't even remember CivWin or CivNet existed)...and at the same time, there are so many things Civ I is better than...

I've never played the Amiga version...I assume it is quite good...

It's definitelyl better than school...

Maybe I should have asked...what is better than Civ I?

later,

Well as far as I can make out (and this is from memory), its a port. For example it doesnt use the Amigas menu system - the menus look and operate just like in the DOS version.

The graphics are a bit nicer - they still have the same sort of look, but its a 320 * 200 32 colour (I think) screen, rather than chunky VGA graphics. (Which always made DOS games look bad imho).

In terms of new features, you can rename existing cities, but thats about it. The great thing about it, is that they have corrected a bunch of bugs like the population bug.

Unfortunately they didnt port the unit movement animations really well. I dont know what the code is doing of course, but it takes a darn long time to do it. Moving a unit one square takes something like 2 seconds. Which makes moving an army of units very very tedious, and drains much of the fun from the game, and certainly discourages military campaigns.

Update:
Hmm. I just did a quick google search and found some screenshots:

You know how sometimes we remember things as being better than they really were?... hmmm lol

Hey Andy6474b!

Moby games turned out to be a great resource...Those screenshots were great, and I was impressed with the fact it even system requirements listed too.

When I have the Civ I section of my site completed, then I will post a thread so that players can critique it. Judging from what is out there (or lack thereof) I'm really trying for accuracy, completeness and the most comprehensive package of every download or info possible for Civ I (which I doubt I will ever have).

Thanks for the help!

Hey Guys!

Where'd everyone go?

Didn't you know that Civ1 is better than everything on the 99 cent menu?

Who needs fast food when you've got Civ?

Cheers,

Um lets see....
Civ is better then
Death
being tortured
watching paint dry
and watching grass grow

better than Civ .5 I suppose...

Also, I was thinking....

Civ I is better than dimpled chads on a presidential ballot!

It's better than riding two thousand miles in a U-Haul trailer.

...and it's definitely better than cafeteria food....

And everyone thought this thread was dead...hah!
