What is love ?

Curt, I'm sure even you have some of the vibe in you ;)

Nothing more, nothing less:

Love is the reflection of God's unity in the world. It constitutes the entire significance of creation. It is love that gives meaning and value to all the happenings in the world.

Real love is a fully-loaded MP-40 and a line of communists, and as Curt stands against the wall with arms spread, they pass the MP-40 from to another down the line and each communists in turn aims, then fires a shot into the air and weeps.

I know you were posting in haste and did not have time to complete your thought, so I happily finished it for you.

Like what classical_hero mentioned, "Love" is an action not just talk or emotion. Many ppl can talk about "love" as much as they like and do "love" as many times as they want. but that is not love.

To me, true love is to be able to take care of the one u like, be with her thru ups and downs and especially when ur having ur "ups" and her "down". Men get more "valuable" when getting older and women get less attractive when that happens and only during this period that a man can truly show the woman how much he loves her.

True love is copying HBs flag avatar and making it your own. :mischief:

What is love ? Please, define.

Love is the insanity of two.

Ambrose Bierce said:
LOVE, n. A temporary insanity curable by marriage or by removal of the patient from the influences under which he incurred the disorder. This disease, like caries and many other ailments, is prevalent only among civilized races living under artificial conditions; barbarous nations breathing pure air and eating simple food enjoy immunity from its ravages. It is sometimes fatal, but more frequently to the physician than to the patient.

I made that avatar 100% myself using Paint Shop Pro 7. It's not supposed to be an exact copy, obviously.

I was more pointing to perfection's whose is a much closer copy of HBs. (and most likely a provocative gesture). Seeing yours and his together here made me post. :)

Aha!

The tiny communist mind would indeed weep at the sheer beauty
and workmanship of both the MP-40 and myself! That explains it!

Why is it so hard to define what love is? People only give short superficial and mostly meaningless answers, and the different answers are often inconsistent. This makes me suspect that nobody really knows what love is. The reason why nobody knows what love is is of course very simple: Love doesn’t exist!

Love is an idea created by humans for the purpose of controlling people. Of course love isn’t free. We have to buy all kinds of useless stuff (like flowers, jewelry, expensive unpractical clothes and so on) to attract the right partner. This makes ordinary people into wage slaves because they have to pay a lot of money for all this useless junk.

The money goes to the rich and powerful people who produce and sell the junk. If people believe they need all this expensive junk they will be willing to do almost anything to get enough money. That creates a lot of desperate workers available to employers in all businesses, and desperate workers are easy to exploit. So rich people in all kinds of businesses profits from the love myth.

The government and the military are of course also involved. If the people believe in love they will also be willing to sacrifice their lives for their loved ones. The ruling elite can then start more wars because it becomes easier to find people willing to fight for them. It is easy to make people fight wars to protect their loved ones. It is also important for the war machinery to have as many people work as much as possible. People who believe they need love are willing to work as much as they can (to be able to afford love) instead of occasionally taking some time off to enjoy life.

It is certainly good for the rich and powerful that the rest of the population believes in love, but love also creates a lot of problems. Lives are ruined, families are broken, people are killed and countless other tragedies happen daily because of love.:( All this suffering could have been avoided if people only dared to think rationally and reject this irrational love fantasy!

I like it when you post in a good cynical style, Pikachu!

Some fine points!

What I've discovered about love is that it's a step up from infatuation and can be mistaken for infatuation. Try it. If you still feel infatuation over a girl/boy that moved away or something after a year, then that's love.

I won't go into the science of it because I for one like a little mystery in my life. ;)

@Pikachu: I agree with you on the non-existance of romatic love, but you make out as a product of the military-industrial complex. But it is even worst than that -- they too believe in such fairy tales, just like our forefather, and their forefathers before them, and their forefathers before them, etc. People who believed in love tend to fight harder, and are able to procreate more often, thus allowing to spread there genes far and wide.

I am not so sure about that. Not so long ago love was irrelevant in most people’s lives. Marriages were based on real things like convenience, money, status or whatever. It is a fairly new idea that marriages should be based on an illusion (love). In fact it is virtually nothing that indicates that ordinary people believed in love before the industrial revolution. Before that love only appears in artworks sponsored by the ruling elite. Isn't that a little suspicious?;)
