What is that violet-white civ on the mini map down there?

It's spelled Triést in Venetian though, but it doesn't belong on a Republic of Venice city list. It was Austrian for far longer.

It is spelled "Trieste" and it is my home town. :king:
That is actually the plural of 'Triest' in Dutch:p
Ah I see, it's in Slovenia. I still want to visit that country one day. I have read a lot about the beautiful landscape there.

Oh by the way Menzies & the others: keep on talking about Venice! You really have convinced me that Venice could be an awesome addition to the expansion.

Their uniforms were. Their colors in the scenario are accurate to the Confederate Battle Flag.

It's odd that the Union gets their uniforms and the Confederates get their flag (especially since the flag has the same colors as the Union (United States) Flag). That being said, the Confederates weren't exclusively gray. They also had a brown/butterscotch colored uniform as well. Interestingly enough, the Iroquois symbol is pretty close to both colors ;)

I would probably have gone with gray background, red center, though, given the choice.

It's in Italy, not Slovenia,

Oh, and I think Menzies would be pretty annoyed if he somehow managed to convince you that Venice would be an awesome addition. He doesn't want it.

Yep, sensible choices could be based on either the coat of arms of Florence (red and white) or the coat of arms of the Medici (red and yellow):

Then again, with the existing Civs to go on they could be anything...

Looks wonderful, but maybe purple like Fiorentina's shirt would fit? Tuscany would be better as a purple and cream civ than Venice

Trieste is in Italy now my friend, not Slovenia; It has been since 1954.

Oops, got beat to the punch. :)

You mean that is how it is spelled in the Venetian dialect? I've not seen it spelled that way in the rest of Italy.

Venetian Flag

Iroquois Flag

Which civ would you make purple and cream?

Yes, I would think the Iroquois fit purple/cream better, but that's not really the point most of us who think Venice is in are focusing on. As I have said again and again, that is sadly irrelevant. The devs have shown before that if they have to, they won't use the most obvious colors - China is the most egregious case of this, as they ignored the imperial colors of yellow and red (red of which is also a highly important color in Chinese culture) for the very odd green and white. Sure, jade is important to Chinese history and society, but would you have America be represented by yellow for French Fries, England represented by black for coal, and Turkey dark brown for coffee? Point is, as the example of China demonstrates, relatively nonsensical color choices for civs are not implausible. If anything, they might not have wanted another red/yellow civ. Someone's gotta lose.

As Menzies has demonstrated, the correlation between wikipedia's Venetian "purple" and the one seen in the screenshot is so high, it's almost impossible at this point that something else is in. I dont remember exactly the exact statistics, but it was somewhere like 1 in 4650 for an extremely conservative estimate.

I'd like to see more samples be taken of the colors of the Iroquois flags. I lack the tools necessary.

Menzies compared the purple with several Iroqouis flags a while back, I think, but you can ask him to do a comparison with several different Iroqouis flags if you want, I'm sure he'd be more than happy to do so.

I don't htink they'd replace the Iroquois colors, though. They've never done that in Civ5. If they did, I'd be demanding they change China's colors immediately.
