What is the name of your local supermarket?

Fairway, Gristede's, D'Agastino's.

For some reason, NYC doesn't have the broadly known US supermarkets like Safeway or Stop & Shop. Don't know why; maybe some stupid rule from long ago, like the one prohibiting the sale of alcohol on Sundays.

Tesco and Sainsbury.

We do have a nearby Netto, Kwicksave, Asda, Aldi, Somerfield and Morrisons, but there is this word "quality" ;)

The nearest supermarket to my house is actually a Co-op, but I loathe and despise them and refuse to shop there. The only reason that they can afford to have their hoity-toity ethical policies is that they establish their stores in areas where the locals do not have much money and many cannot travel elsewhere and then ramp up their prices to rival those in department stores. That, and the quality is nothing to write home about either.
I shop at Morrison's, which is the next nearest, but if I had a car then I'd have a choice of Tesco, Safeway, Sainsbury and Asda (Walmart's foot in the door of the British retail market).
There is a Netto very close to my house but after a couple of occasions involving the discovery of insect life in their fresh vegetables some time ago then I wouldn't consider going there ever again. For the most part, it is sadly true that you get what you pay for.

Loeb & Loblaws here.

My guess is that all of the franchised/chain grocery stores mentioned here are owned by one of 5 companies or at at least stocked by them. Nice that they change the names in different regions.

My wife has a satisfyingly funny story that ends with the manager telling her "You will NEVER work in ASDA again!!!"

where i live, the closest ones are Price Chopper, Stop & Shop (stupid shop), Shaws, there's a new one that i think is an IGE
and near the place i work at: Roach Brothers (i think its roach, but i might be wrong), Market Basket (BarkIt MaskIt)

We've got two (three if you count Wal-Mart's new grocery addition)

Econofoods (formerly More-4, then before that, Erickson's...then before that, an IGA...oddly enough, it's only been around since the 1980's and they've changed their name three times...) and County Market.

Hyvee! Price Chopper is around here but we like Hyvee better!

Oh that’s right, Yoda P I also have a Super Brugsen nearby. But I mostly shop in Fakta, its cheaper there.
"And it only takes 5 minutes, but we really want you to stay" - Yeah right Fakta-boys!

That reminds me..While I was living in the UK, I learned that Wal-Mart bought the Asda stores..I've been back in the states for about 2 weeks now.

I got a little freaked out yesterday when I was in Wal-Mart I saw ASDA's 'George' clothing line there, had a bit of a culture shock for a wee second!

Right now I'm living near a Super Big Y, Stop & Shop and a Price Rite, but I don't shop in Price Rite because that one is dirty.

Food4Less (used to be Food Barn and SuperFoodBarn before being bought out; they also bought out the last Albertsons locally); Dillons (Krogers bought them out, but kept it Dillons), Wal Mart; Aldi's; Savalot; Checkers.

There used to be a Price Chopper about 70 miles away (checked, still is).

Also, a number of smaller stores selling only Hispanic or Asian foods.
