What are you, a stalker?
(Wonder units count as unique units.) I'd prefer the Musketeer, Numidian Mercenary, and Beserk. But the Beserk is best IMO. I mean, a Caravel of Beserks is the Middle age equivalent to a Transport full of Marines. And they're 6/2/1. :trouble:

A group of Crusaders (Knights Templar) can be a difference maker.
I never take note of UUs so much though. It's a nice given, but I'm in a game now as the Iroquois, and didn't build a single UU because I never met anyone early game.

Gallic Sword. They are formidable for their era, and are good for warlike expansion.

The Ancient Cavalry is of course equivalent to the GS, but with an extra hitpoint, and they come at the same time or only slightly later, but they do require a Wonder that requires a specific resource. I count these as equally valuable or a close second.

I would say the Immortal but after I tried the Celts for the first time last week, I have to say the gallic swordsman. I wiped out every opponent and won the game 1000BC, it was crazy. They crush everything in their way.

Theov, I'm actually up against crusaders and ancient cavalry as we speak and I'm having a hard time...

If I'm able to get Ivory, the Ancient Cavalry. Especially if you play without Accelerated Production. I don't build many AA wonders, but that one I'll try hard to get if I find Ivory. I even prebuild for it.

Gallic Swords are very good but a little expensive. I like the Chinese Rider, but there are several very good ones so it's hard to choose. If you don't have Ivory, you can have a serious good time with the Mounted Warrior. Heck, on flat land with near neighbors the War Chariot's pretty good. The Immortal is well known and the Praet works well combining strong defense with the Sword's attack.

All my games go past the 2050 end year, so I have to go with something that has lasting usefulness, this leaves the Conquestador standing alone.

Ancient Cavalry are great. I love the Ottomans Sipahi, and the Persian Immortals. Always liked the Roman Legionary, and the Celtic Gallic Swordsman.

The Americans have the most useless unit in the game, IMHO. The F-15 is just a waste of time. I don't even use air units.

A thread just started for the most useless unit. If a poll was done, I think the F-15 would win and I DO use air units at times (when the AI survives that long). But I still never cared if I had the F-15 or not.

Unique units have very, very rarely done all that much for me in most of my games. Looking over my HoF list, I did two Deity domination games where mounted warriors did a lot. I also had one game where Egypt's war chariots did a good bit of work. I'll have to say, however, that my preferred unique unit is the Dromon.

My favorite are knight-based UUs. I have been known to fear the ancient cavs and crusaders, but now I just get the AI to fight each other when they have a stockpile of either.

I like the Numidian Mercenary. Not for me, for the AI. They're who I ally the strong civ against.

Dromons are definitely the best naval unit for their age.

Gallic Swords are for me the strongest because they arrive so early and you can upgrade warriors to them, though I do like the unique abilities for its time of the dromon

Dromon!!!!!!!!
All hail the emperor of the east!!!!

You can just eliminate any naval opposition and land units anywhere you like. It's also better bombardment than a stupid catapult.
