I have my best luck with Mounted Warriors. In fact I love to play Iros; so much so that I have had to force myself to play other Civs. MW's are my treat to myself once in a while.

Dromons are definitely the best naval unit for their age.
Dromons rule the seas until destroyers become available. Build them in masses and with their lethal bombardent you sink everything. Thus, they are by far the best naval UU.
people still play civ 3? .. why?

well, from my personal point of view, there was no good civ after c3c.

Because Civ 2 isn't as good as 3, Doom (and Doom II) don't want to run fullscreen, and I can't get Colonization to work![]()
Wrong. I loved Colonization. It's just whenever I try to get it to work on newer computers, it either doesn't install right or I play for a few minutes (literally, from double-click to it closing is just a couple minutes) and it shuts down for some reason. It's actually been a while since I've tried it, though, so maybe I'll grab the CD tonight .... Of course, I only finished ... 2-3 games, and only won 1 (as the English :/). Then again, I was a poor player.I'll go out on a limb and say you didn't miss much with Colonization.
Really? The reason I liked it so much is that it reminded me of Civ 1. Of course, it doesn't play like Civ 1 ... but trading was fun, the fact that units could lose a combat and still be around was fun, the units were fun, and it was mildly historically accurate (as far as my 4th-grade brain was concerned). I also have a ridiculous fondness for the sounds completed buildings make. If Civ 4 plays similarly to Colonization, I may just go grab the discs and load it up.All the additional micro of Civ4 without any of the fun.
The only maps I play on Civ 3 are Huge PangaeasI'd give Civ4 a try, unless you have an older computer and like large maps.
High five!Raliuven said:I'll stick up for Colonization.
That may have been why I never did too well. I was simply unable to plan ahead for anything. I still can't actually micromanage at all, but I've always loved being a builder. ... ... Followed by zerging my enemies with top-tier unitsI actually enjoy it, but I'm a MMing demented builder.
it is way too easy to beat if you know how to play the game.
Fortunately, I still have the manual. Even if it is falling apart. So, to discourage this, all relevant information on how to actually play the game has been removed from existence. If you stick with it long enough to figure out all (most of) the rules, it's not bad.
I am so showing this to my Colonization CD. Then I'm going to ask it what it feels like to be an evil cousin. I certainly wouldn't know. None of my cousins have so much as a scratch or bruise they can blame on meIt is sort of the evil cousin to Rollercoaster Tycon.
Rali is surely talking about Civ4:Colo, not the original. His assessment of that game seems pretty accurate to me.
Because it's a great game, and I play great games over, and over, and over. I also played some Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri (1996) last night, and this week, I double-checked to be sure that I still have Master of Orion 2 (also 1996) on my 'pooter.people still play civ 3? .. why?
