I am curious as to how many people will start their game at normal level what ever they call it this edtion? How many people will start at chieften level or easiest level for thier very first game.

I will start mine at normal level because I don't like having the bonuses to off set the game, and then it becomes too boring at the end when it's too easy then.

So what about you guys and gals? What level will you play your first game at and why?

probably the level below normal and then keep going up every victory until I get beaten to a pulp by the AI

I'll start at neutral, i.e. no bonuses for either side. I think that's the best way to learn, especially for a decently experienced player. You don't want to develop bad habits on easier levels, at least if you want to play mostly on more difficult settings eventually.

Playing Civ4 RoM-AND on immortal now... when Civ5 comes out I'll probably try Prince or Monarch first and work my way up again.

I'd probably go with the easiest level to get used to the mechanics and then try on the neutral level.

Chieftan, to nurse my feeble ego by conquering the world with ease and learning the new mechanics. I'll work up from there.

i'll play on noble or whatever they call it this time around. I don't like the idea of handicaps being given to players or AI as a measure of difficulty.

Higher difficulties should equal smarter AI's.

We learn more from our defeats than from our victories which is why I'll probably start from a level equal or only less hard than my current one, emperor.

Lowest level baby, that way I can be way out in front and take all the detours through the new fetures. Hear that AI, I'm coming for you in September! Geerrrr. Hi-yah!

As with every civ except for the first one (I started as settler back then) I will start one below normal.

I'll play at a low level the first time as I familiarize myself with the interface, the main basic gameplay changes, etc. The second time it'll be normal level, as I work on strategy.

I'll likely start at a very hard level (comparable to the immortal level of civ4) as I have lots of experience with civ-type games and hex-based war games. My first game will be played pretty slow though, to learn the new game rules and not be surprised by these new rules.

Probably the equivalent of Noble (I play on Emperor in civ4).

Yup this is what I did with Civ 4 to. 1 game on noble, read the forum's a bunch, 10 games on prince, 1 on monarch, now I play emperor which is the sweet spot for me.

Hopefully a similar experience with Civ 5, atleast if there is enough strategy discussion within the first couple months ;)
