This cover of The Cure's 1987 "The Perfect Girl" (2015) by Mareux is outstanding. I can't believe I'm only just hearing it now.

The Motion did a "retrowave" remix just this Spring that's pretty cool, too. I'm hearing both versions for the first time tonight, so I'm not sure yet which one I prefer. Oh, the remix doesn't have the vocals. In that case, I think I like the 2015 one better, although the instrumental remix is cool, would be good for a soundtrack of something.

I don't understand. Who is Johnny Weir, and to what are you referring?
Apologies! Weir is an American figure skater turned commentator who bears something of a resemblance to the vocalist of Soft Cell pictured above. He provides NBC commentary with Tara Lipinski for figure skating and ice dancing so I thought of you.

Ah, okay. It's been many years since I followed figure skating, and in any case I'm more familiar with the Canadian skaters. I had a few non-Canadian favorites, but that's reaching back to the '80s and '90s and early '00s. I rarely watched NBC commentary, as they focused more on Americans and less on Canadians and Europeans.

I'm in a Johnny Clegg mood. I didn't realize recently that he died of cancer back in 2019. I've been a fan of his music since hearing "Dela" in George of the Jungle. Currently listening to "Scatterlings of Africa", and trying to sell myself on buying his biography.

This cheered me up.
