I will probably play China my first go thru. China seems to have the bonuses and unique items that are most forgiving of not understanding what you are doing, and blundering through.
Whoever I play, on whatever map my victory condition in game 1 will be "knowing a hell of a lot more by the time I'm finished than I did when I started". Winning will only become remotely relevant from game 2 onwards.
1. Start at lowest difficulty, because I will never play it again and it makes some sense to go up the ladder. There is also some weird irrational motivation in "achievements", even though I did not care about them in Civ 5. However, problem with this will be wasting a lot of time on first 4-5 levels (finishing games).
2. Start at some middle difficulty, like Prince or King. I expect myself beating game on this level pretty easily, but it should be interesting enough to finish the game.
3. Trying out Deity, even though I wasn't even good Deity player in Civ 5. I won it maybe 15 times, but always with better Civs and under some conditions (no aggro villain next to me to start with).
I guess I'll go with 2, and if I have need for achievements later, I just deal with King and lower in some Duel map and early domination.
As far as civ goes, it is 100% America. It seems as vanilla as it gets, so perfect to start with. Although, I already see myself missing that +5 early military bonus and esp. quick legacy bonuses in my next game
And I know how I start that game. 2-3 early scouts and Survey policy (double exp for recon units). I really want to try out fast exploration and experienced scouts, and I really want to settle some city near closest natural wonder, whatever it takes
I am just itching to play with Harald and the new raiding mechanic. I haven't watched anything more then the leader intro's, so i am very curious what the gains for costal raiding could do to building order and science focus.
Continents, 6 players, standard speed, playing as Japan, Greece, Arabia and India must be in the game (in the CIV 5 game Ottomans and Persia were present too but since they are not in I'll go for a random choice for the last two).
First game: Aztecs - to take advantage of the pre order bonus
Map Size: Huge
Map Type: Continents
Difficulty: Prince
Game Speed: Marathon
Victory Type: Domination/Culture
I'll go random Civ and continents and play whatever the map gives me. I'll probably play on whatever the second highest difficulty is right off the bat.
For my second game, I'll conquer a Pangaea map with Rome.
Random civ
5th difficulty (or one level below highest diff) (emperor/immortal equivalent)
continents
huge (12 players)
epic game speed
disable time victory
I`ll probably go peacefull builder route (culture game). And expand when i find no more room to settle. Probably around midieval era. (musketeers or pikeman).
My social policy cards will not focus much on milirary except perhaps 1 less gold maintainance for military units.
Whenever possible i try to avoid angering other civs (agenda`s) except when it conflicts to much with my own (china).
