What would we want/not want to return from cIV BTS?

I'd like to see these return, but implemented a lot better than they were in Civ 4.
  • Corporations
  • Alliances
  • Colonies
  • Vassals
  • Next War Mod's future stuff without it being a mod.
  • Forest growth without needing a mod.

- Ethnicities, with impact on happiness and revolts (ok, the latter was mod only).
- Feeling threatened by an AI's military might.

Being able to use mods in MP would make it for me since I only play MP. And there are some good mods out there.

Yes, and a civilization could become your vassal instead of you having to eliminate them, so you could actually have a long-term friend who you didn't have to annihilate to win.

In Civ V there's no such thing as a long-term friend, but if there was it sure would be nice if you didn't have to attack your friends to get a conquest victory.

I don't know if vassals really counted as long-term friends. They were always hostile to me and generally resisted giving in to everything they could get away with. They are about as much long-term friends as a civ that was completely conquered and then you liberate them. They still hate you, but you get free open borders and they can't declare war on you.

Yikes, I have quite a long list....

-Domination shouldn't be capital sniping.

-Diplomacy that matters, not the psychotic insanity we have now. I don't really bother anymore, I just take their gold then Kill'em All.

-Fixing all the UI mistakes/issues (how many times have I pillaged something accidentally while quickly give wait orders to tons of units all over the place just to end the turn?).

-Remember what my last settings were, don't make me have to set it up every time, or at least give us a Regenerate Map function. And while we are at it, why aren't all the options given to us at the main screen? I understand the 'no cluttering up the not so attractive main screen', but when I click maps, at least give me a list of all map types, not like just 5 or whatever they give us now? Console design mentality drives me bonkers.

-END TURN. I don't want to give orders to every F'n unit, and every city. JUST END THE EFFIN TURN!!!! Please, I beg you.

-All those little icons I get every turn on the right side of my screen, when I click on them, they better do something, especially for the Trade icons! I.E. reopen trade with that Civ and set up the trade as it was. Don't make me redo the whole thing every effin time.

-The way cultural borders worked in Civ IV was much better. This static version we have now is lame.

-Removal of RA's

-Map script updates. Removal of land-lock continents to ice at the poles, giving a CS the world wonder, better scripting of resources to promote strategy IE Terra maps etc..

-Removal of CS's? Unless they are going to turn it in to something, but they are completely pointless at this point.

-Total reworking of trade posts. Could it be more ugly? What are they supposed to be anyway? Strip-malls and urban blight? Everything about them is half-baked. Cottages were so much better.

-Global Warming.

-Random Events, good and bad.

-Nukes that can reach anywhere.

**A way to 'pin' the map. This is a big one for me, let me explain. I mostly play domination games and fallback to science if it gets too tedious. So, I have multiple fronts usually, and a CS ally or two somewhere in the world.

So when I end the turn, the screen starts shooting all over the place (a CS saw a boat!). So with all the quick movement, my system strains to keep up (large maps and late era standard) so invariably, the battle lines I really needed to see, I don't see because the view is swinging all over the place. All I get is an icon that I lost a unit, click on that and it shows me where it WAS, but not what happened. Extremely frustrating. Did a strong melee do it? Is there a horse doing hit and run? Is there artillery I can't see? Were they bombed first? Who knows. Now multiply that by 3 different battle lines spread throughout the world.

I want to place a pin on the map, and the AI swinging the view around will be limited to 1/2 a screen length of that pin, or no movement at all, I'll take either.

I don't think "pin map" is necessary, but an option to disable "enemy and friendly" movements like Civ 3 and 4 had remember?

I also completely disagree with the removal of CS, they're VERY useful, albeit, needs moar stuff which is something we're supposed to be getting with G&K.

Colonies would be nice. The diplo victory should be overhauled, no vassals please. Vassal system was just not working. I'm indifferent with map trading. It saves you a lot of work, but it really does take the fun out of exploration.

Just because Vassal States didn't wokr in Civ 4 doesn't mean they can't make it work in Civ 5.. Same with Religion. they're changing it. Same with the way Espionage work.

want:

A Ping device for multiplayer use. It's a pain trying to point something out in a huge map to my teammate.
Conquest victory type

Wants
- Border expansion the way it is now, but the return of competing for tiles via culture and expanding into your neighbor's territory and even snatching cities from them if you have stronger culture (this way it won't be the exact same formula as civ4). This made going for cultural victory in civ4 much more fun for me. In my experience it ticked me off when my neighbor expanded into my territory, and really gave me incentive to wipe them out through war. I guess it's this "passive-aggressive" way of playing I truly miss, although I know it's not realistic IRL.

- Vassals, but I hated that my vassals hated my guts. I want them to be more submissive! They should be happy to even be alive! :P Why are they rude and obnoxious? They should at least have the decency to put on a decent gameface and address me as their supreme overlord or master even if they hate me for being better than them.

- Return of cottages and their development through time, or a complete overhaul of the trading posts. They are friggin' ugly and I don't even bother to build them because they are so boring.

- Random events for spicing up diplomacy. I loved that in civ4.

Do not want
- Corporations. Boring in civ4, but I can see them implemented if Firaxis revamps them in a similar fashion to what they've done with religion.

Pins (captions) were very useful on CIV, but they would be even more useful now because of 1UPT. When trying to move an army, it's pain trying to memorize tiles where you have sent units.

Also, the map labels that your team mates can read.

I'm would like a feature from CivRev to be incorporated into CiV: The bonus units receive for attacking from hills. That would make city placement all that much more important. Settling a city on a grassland next to a hill(s) would be a risky proposition. On the other hand, settling a city on a hill next to a hill would allow the city's defenses to counter the hill attack bonus. I think it would add something to combat gameplay.

Things I want to see:
  • Map Trading
  • MORE Random events
  • Commodities being tradeable, all of them.
  • Apostolic Palace, United Nations Resolutions. Again more of them.
  • Colonies/Imperialism.
  • Multiple leaders for certain countries and attributes!!!!

Not want to see:
  • Stacks

Why do people consantly say they don't wanan see Stacks return?

There's no friggin way they are EVER gonna return in Civ 5 (maybe in 6, but not 5) It's like if Civ 5 suddenly got rid of City States for good or changed heaxgons back into squares.

I would really like to see ethnically diverse unit sets, for me it is certainly one of the most important cosmetic features.

I'm hoping such an announcement will be coming soon. :)
