If you were a writer, what genre would your writing belong to, and why? Even if you never wrote anything you could make a guess, by reflecting on what you feel your life story mostly resembles :)

Only fictional categories. I meant to include a science category as well, but messed up the poll!

I voted "other", specifically porn, and would have all the poll options as subcategories under that main category.

Most of my writing (both published and non-published) falls under Creative Non-Fiction, Participatory Journalism, and "straight" Journalism.

I've dabbled in adventure, fantasy, and limited sci-fi (space opera stuff, mostly) as both a writer and cartoonist. I often inject humour into whatever I write, so I suppose I can chalk off comedy, too.

Peterotica.

But seriously, if I was a writer I would prolly write crappy general fiction, but try to write horror.

I said "other" because this really should have been a multiple-choice poll. I write science fiction, fantasy, history, and gothic fantasy. It's necessary to include all these genres because I love crossovers, whether writing stories or filks.

Edit: Include comics in my list - I have written original Fuzzy Knights material.

I would write a screenplay for comedy film/sitcom based on the pub I work in.

Autobiographical stories.

Maybe embellish them with fiction, like Hemingway.

Could you all also mention why you would choose that genre you named?

Although my first story was horror, i then moved on to writing general fiction, influenced by Dostoevsky, Camus and others. Then i moved on to symbolism/allegory ala Kafka, and finally began again to write horror, and i stuck with it this time :D

Hard science fiction. Hard as diamond.

I have some pretty amazing stories, and I fancy I could tell them in an entertaining and provocative manner.

Some examples:

Escorted by cop car (in my Mustang GT convertable) at over 100 MPH for 30 minutes.

Almost going to war crapfaced and stoned, and nearly getting arrested in the process.

Almost getting eaten by sharks off the coast of Kenya.

Taking safari via local contacts only (toyota cab and driver rented for a weekend in the Masai Mara).

Various military stories.

Various crapfaced hooliganism.

Playing with firearms, private and government. Sometimes with less than exemplary results.

Grad school in Europe, and the shenanigans that ensued.

Crossing the Tanzania/Kenya border, at night, and getting stranded in a shanty-town on the border.

I think I've told most of these stories on CFCOT, if anyone is interested in one I'll try to find a link.

ps. CFCOT has improved my writing. I can see that clearly when I look back at my Thesis from 2003. I guess with ~15k posts, I should not be surprised that my writing has improved.

Fantasy has always fascinated. I love learning about cultures, history, language, etc. That's why my favorite part of the Lord of the Rings is actually the appendices.

Get out.

For me, it's chiefly a matter of taste. I'll read/watch material in that genre and think, "I'd like to make something like that", and so I do.

That's kinda how it worked for me. I read Hemingway and then I lived that way.

Don't worry, I am vehemently anti-suicide, so I will not be going out like he did.

I don't know what I write about. Mainly in the DYOS its more geared towards the Sci-Fi section.

A cross between horror and science fiction, sometimes with some comedy thrown in. Not "hard" science fiction though, which is boring.
