The last ten years was an orgasm of warfare, disease, and disaster. Precipitated by great technological advances, worldwide exploration and self-promoting leaders, the world is now a much more dull and humbler place.
EUROPE
The Great War has devastated Europe, and the Phage as well. Both France and Britain collapsed into small warring states, with many Jewish nobles becoming major bankrollers on the British Isles. Castile-Oporto unites with Cadiz to form the Iberian Empire, which immediately guaranteed the independence of other Iberian states. Italy and Germany are war-scarred hellscapes, the city states of the region devastated beyond comparison as luddites, socialists, former soldiers and frightened refugees criss cross the region. The rump Union of Jewish Socialist Republics, consisting of “merely” Poland, Ukraine, and half of European “Russia”, fights many contenders, nobles, and radicals, threatening their high-tech Steamplosion bombs against their greatest foes. The diplomatic situation is precarious, and although many call for peace, many politicians still consider war to consolidate the little remaining power they have.

Although the Persian and Turkhanan heartlands are relatively unscathed, their reputations and their armies are heavily damaged by seemingly useless war. The Ottomans have completely collapsed, with Jewish Remants, Venetian Merchant Masters, and local Warlords divvying much of the area. Persia did manage to annex Mesopotamia during the cooling winter. The region is very suspicable to diplomatic and perhaps military pressure. However, the situation in India has come into a greater boil.
