Engineering, it's responsible for many of the things that we use today, such as the computer.

Physics is actually, at least in terms of the microchip, engineering of said transistor came later after electro-magnetic theory.

Writing, and the written language, as they allowed us to create permanent and (ideally) unchanging records of observations, discoveries, ideas, stories, etc. Overcoming the inevitable innacuracies that came from oral traditions caused by unreliable human memories.

Good one. This also allowed knowledge to start to accumulate in amounts larger than just one person could remember.

Atheism. Probably.

This just isn't that nice. Its ok, just more anecdotal evidence that most aetheists tend to be hateful.

atheists are hateful....they just have differing opinions.

if anything religious zealots are hateful

I'd have to go with writing; It was invented in Sumeria for accounting purposes (keeping track of trade and taxes) and was an offshoot of needing a better way to count things.

EDIT: Stories and names all came soon after.

agriculture. When we didn't have to spend all of our time moving around from place to place hunting animals we had free time to invent more stuff, like the automatic machine gun ;)

Agriculture was the beginnng of civilization, which is not a good thing. Agriculture was not a great human achievement. As a whole science hasn't produced many great things, I will say the best is either; computers, internet, photovoltaic arrays, wind and air turbines, or solar energy

Every aetheist has ever met thinks everyone who isn't an aetheist is a moron. I have met and know lots and unless they know you personally thats how they feel about other religious beliefs.

Zealots are more hateful.

Finally, I doubt it qualifies as a invention.

ill admit i have seen hateful atheists but i think they we're hateful before they ever made that decision.

i know plenty of atheists that love life and fully accept religious people. because a true atheist believes in making his own choice and to let others make their own

So you would like to die at 25-30 without any grasp of how the world works?

Science is great.

On a serious note...teh DNA and related stuff are important.

You want to be a hunter gatherer? That is a terrible existence. It took the ag revolution a few thousand years to produce the first "cities" and city states. While you may no tlike civilization, it has produced just enough good stuff to make it better than living without its benefits. I do not believe that any civ, once civilized has ever elected to revert back to something less. The individuals who do so are usually disillussioned pretty quickly. :p

None of the stuff you mentioned would have come about without civilization.

Physics is responsible for us knowing how microchips work, but engineering is responsible for the microchip being made. Engineering is basically applying science.

No, I would not like to die at age 25-30. And I don't know if science can ever truly explain exactly how the world "works." I am not suggesting a return to the stone age, and as much as I do think a hunter-gatherer society may be a good thing, I realize that is impossible in this day and age (sustainable intentional communities, or ecovillages, are much more realistic). I am sayng that agriculture brought about the beginning of civilization, which is bad. Secondly, most science is part of a military-industrial complex, which is not the right way to go with it.

Hey, if you don't like our civilization, I'm sure there's a window somewhere you can leap from. Or if that's too much of an evil human invention for you, a cliff, tree, or steep rocky hill will do just as well.

At least appreciate that writing, agriculture, fire and the like have put you in a warm, cushy position from which you can complain about how terrible we are.
