Does everybody remember that stupid S symbol that was often drawn in like 5th and 6th grade of people around my age?

Questions:

-What the heck was that?
-What was its origins?
-Why the heck was it so popular?
-etc.?

I have seen that a few times, too. It kinda looks like a hot dog. Maybe that's why it was so popular. I mean, hot dogs are good and people wanna eat them, so they draw things that make them feel like they are eating hot dogs? No?

I remember that. We used to call it the "Superman" symbol.

Looks gangsta, bro!

ahahaahahaha. Good question fifty.

It comes from the "S" symbol used by Oskar Schindler during the war. He'd give a Jewish worker a pass that would entitle them to work in his factory until the end of the war, and it would hase his "S" signature, exactly like that one.

Thus, the symbol took on a meaning of itself, especially after Spielberg's movie, Schindler's List, and has taken on a double meaning of "life".

The people who draw this are either wannabe communist 15 year old radicals, or the descendants of the people Schindler saved.
When you see someone drawing it, ask them which of them they are.

lol, I remeber drawing that. I did since the letter S is in my name.. so i happily scrawled it into my school desk agan an again an again!

I remember kids drawing it in primary school in Australia, too.

So this was a world wide phenomenon, and NOBODY KNOWS WHERE IT COMES FROM OR WHAT IT IS OR ANYTHING ELSE!?!?!? [pissed]

stussy clothing had that in their designs back then

or not.

cant find any thing with it.

Yeah I seem to recall it being a Stussy design.

I dunno. Everyone in my class said it was the Spartan (Michigan State University) symbol...and it isn't, right?

I was more of a UofM guy, so I skipped on it.

It was either Sussy or Seventeen Street Surf Shop as a similar version was used by each, both rather large gear/clothing chains linked to skating and surfing and thus "cool" in the 90s.

It was just a cool-looking letter that was easy to learn to draw. Sort of like the anarchy "A".

I thought it looked like the Superman S.

Upon further reflection I have decided it does not look like the Superman S.
