I live in northern Virginia which is considered part of the south, but culturally its really not so as a result i don't see many of those people that always show off confederate flag prints on their clothes, hats, or cars.
Considering nobody alive today has any real connection to the events of the american civil war i find it silly that many southerners are still attached to the confederate logo.
The C.S.A was founded over disagreements on slavery plain and simple. States rights had almost nothing to do with it despite what they may of taught you in schools decades ago if you were taught in the south.
The decade leading up to the civil war and leading up to Lincoln's inauguration and the following cessation of southern states from the Union was ultimately over the intense disagreements on how to handle slavery in new states and whether to abolish it in old ones. I still haven't seen any convincing arguments that it was over a different issue and not slavery. The south was economically tied to slave owning practices and could not and would not give up slavery. As a result rising abolitionist sentiment was just too much for them to bear.
Basically what im trying to say is if you really adore the Confederate states of America and what they stood for. Understand that they stood for the continuation of enslavement and to keep the status quo of the south.
This is why i judge someones character if they walk around wearing red neck confederate logos on their clothing or have a confederate flag on the back of their pick up truck. I really doubt these people are rational thinkers.
