When Genocide is Permissible

Maybe we could just pave over and salt the Earth where Jerusalem once stood.

This is actually becoming a more popular opinion among both pro-Israel and pro-Palestine camps here... Just flatten the entire area with nukes and we'll never have to hear about it again. If I were Israeli, I'd be eager to make peace so this train of thought doesn't gain any more currency.

Just to show that this problem has been around for a good long time...

Back when I was in the navy (during the cold war) on a submarine (where obviously everyone had too much time on their hands) we came up with a solution (which could only be considered relatively humanitarian by people who understood that our purpose was the vaporization of a quarter billion people on command).

Since Jerusalem is actually a holy city in three major religions, making it impossible to stop the incessant 'holy' disputes over it...

1) Evacuate city.

2) Dust everything liberally with Cobalt-60, sufficient to generate a fatal radiation level.

3) For the next twenty years, anyone can freely go there and meet the god of their choice in short order.

4) Due to the half life of Cobalt-60 radiation levels will be minimal after 25 years, so repeat if necessary.

5) Eventually it won't be necessary.

Not a bad idea maybe. Or how about this? Make Jerusalem an international nuclear waste landfill after evacuation? For waste generated by nuclear power plants.

I'm not talking about "flattening" anything with nukes. I just think we should literally pave over the city. Why do so many people immediately think "nukes"?

If the religious problems are ever resolved it would be nice to be able to reclaim it as a historical site. That's the beauty of Cobalt-60. Makes the place off limits from a practical standpoint for a quarter century, but then it's pretty much like nothing ever happened. Most nuclear waste doesn't give you that option.

Ah. Good point...

It's more dramatic? But either way would work.

(BTW I'm playing devil's advocate here)

Some would advocate nuking central Africa if the Ebola virus was spreading uncontrollably and threatened humanity. I'm sure nuking Jerusalem would follow the same reasoning.

I worked in an office environment for years. I've had my fill of "drama". Let's just go with the Cobalt-60 as suggested by Tim. Get the people out, then send helicopters to dust the city or however it should be implemented. If you want to see God bad enough to visit Jerusalem after that, then you can sell all your earthly possessions, buy a one way plane ticket and visit with God.

I've pretty much had it with God anymore. God can eat my soiled underwear for all I care at this point.

Maybe we could just pave over and salt the Earth where Jerusalem once stood. Clearly the God of Abraham (the same one worshiped by Jews, Christians, and Muslims; the same one who commanded Abraham to kill his own son...etc. etc.) Is not any sort of God human beings should be concerning themselves with.

The best way to boycott God is to go on a genocidal spree. Once all humanity is gone, then so will God.

I appreciate the opportunity to live and enjoy life.

You're the one who wanted to "genocide" all humanity. That would include you, or did you mean kill everyone on earth but you?

EDIT: Seriously....I have no idea what some people's fixation with "genocide" and "nukes" is about?

I think Gary thinks that some wars are caused by religion. But this isn't true, all wars - since prehistoric, brutal tribal wars between various competing groups of hunter-gatherers, until modern times - are caused primarily by greed. Then of course come various kinds of excuses to justify greed. So demolishing Jerusalem or boycotting God isn't going to help, because people in this part of the world will simply find other kinds of excuses to justify their greed.

So what is your solution then?

I was still editing my post when you was replying (sorry).

Well - you already provided the solution in your posts in this thread. Nuking Jerusalem and everything else.

I think already John the Apostle (6 AD - 100 AD) predicted this ending in his "Apocalypse", aka "Revelations":

BTW - they should definitely change the name of History Channel to something else (just without word "History", please). :p

I was talking about the "need" to boycott God. Would seem a good reason for genocide. It would take care of two concepts at the same time. Has nothing with me advocating anything. I personally tend to be a pacifist anarchist.

I did not say "nuke" Jerusalem. That was hangman playing "devil's advocate". I said, if you go back and read, pave over Jerusalem.

How does boycotting God have anything to do with Genocide? I have nowhere said I support genocide. You said "genocide" in your post not me pal.

Ok, anyway - you consider Jerusalem to be the main hotspot of conflicts, and you wanted to transport nuclear trash there, or something. This is also what John the Apostle wrote - he wrote that the final war, and the final battle, of humanity was going to take place somewhere near Jerusalem. :p

Maybe we could just pave over and salt the Earth where Jerusalem once stood.

According to John the Apostle, this will eventually (during the final battle of humanity) happen. So you and him are in agreement.

But let's remember that this already happened several times in history - for example the Romans did that with Jerusalem. The Babylonians too.

The Crusaders were actually quite generous to that city, compared to what the Romans had done there earlier. :p
