When is the next patch; game breaking vanilla bug.

I'm sorry but a bug that makes the game NOT FUN, I consider gamebreaking. Secondly, read the bug thread, it's a bug so stop telling me it's a game feature and that there must be an enemy unit nearby. There aren't. And finally, this bug is so old it's pissing me off. I have every right to complain about a product that I bought that stopped functioning like it should after they tinkered with it. The bug, for me, is sucking the fun out of the game. It becomes tedious and frustrating to micromanage workers _every turn_.

Ah, yes, your own personal definition of "gamebreaking." Yeah, that'll really hold up in court.

By your definition of "gamebreaking," any company that makes a game that I don't enjoy should be prosecuted. That's ridiculous.

Is this a legitimate issue? Absolutely, albeit a fairly low priority one, as bugs go. But your tone, ranting about suing for false advertising and your "right to complain," only serves to display a sense of entitlement that makes it really hard to empathize with you.

Could the OP (or anyone who has experienced this problem) please post a save that demonstrates the problem? There's a few saves in the bug report thread, but people's exact problems could be different, and the more saves, the merrier.

They'll fix it eventually, they have to. Selling broken software is illegal. False advertising and all, can get software banned from being sold in nations of the EU if they refuse refunds.

I wish people wouldn't quote the law like they know what it is.

My suggestion is to post a game save from the turn before it happens. That would actually be a productive way to address the issue.

Well, we should pack up our bags gentleman. The gaming industry doesn't have many days left. Once our friend here makes his case to the EU Court of Silly Hats, it is all over. Alas, we will look back at the Video Game Crash of 2013 and wonder "why?" Then we will blame the workers of Civilization V whose skittish behavior led to the collapse.

Truly, the eulogies written will rival the Islamic eulogies written for the Fall of Baghdad in 1258 in the scope and depth of emotion.

Well I can't post a save because I'm playing with mods, but I figure a screenshot is the next best thing. I've had many workers with the bug throughout this game(and many more before, in G&K before I installed mods, in Vanilla, etc.) The worker in question this time is the one just under Berlin. He had been working the plantation two tiles to the West of his current location. At the time other workers were building the road you see in the jungle to the North and only marshland was in the fog. As I said, I sent a knight through the swamp a few turns later and there were no barb camps nor enemy units.

If anyone has any clue what could have startled the worker I'd love to hear it.

We're arguing about Vanilla not being patched when was the last time G&K patched, heck the steam apparently broke the game launcher for some today.

This isn't a vanilla only bug, i have had this on a previous England game in G&K. Basically an enemy unit came near which i killed off, yet the worker nearby continued to stop working every single turn. even when i moved the worker towards my capital to improve a tile it still happened. Yet this wasn't happening to any other workers. I ended up deleting the worker and buying another never had the problem since.

Of course you have every right to complain but you're going a bit overboard saying the game isn't functional because of it. You also can't claim false advertising on something that was never an advertised 'feature' of the game.

As for my game the most modern unit on the field was musketmen and I was the furthest along tech wise so I'm sure there were no enemy units nearby. There aren't even any other AI players or barbs on the continent(beside Germany who were still in the classical era. Neither could it be possible that any of the other AIs had ships nearby as none of them had Astronomy. One of the workers was in the center of the continent in a ring of cities. The only thing I can think of is that there were some marshlands to the North-west under the fog of war. That was the only spot within 15-20 tiles of the worker that was not lit up.

Possibly the game thought about putting a barbarian camp in there and it triggered the worker to stop working? I had a longswordsman in the marshes in less than 2 turns and there was nothing there.

Hi,

When can we expect a fix for the following issue:

Workers refuse to work and have to be told _every turn_ what to do. Issue effects vanilla version only.

This is game breaking, it sucks the joy our of the game everything someone declares war. I'm forced to play without barbarians as well. Issue is MONTHS old.

Telling me to buy the expansion is a no go. "Forcing" me to buy a fix for a product if I want to keep using this product within 2 years of purchase is illegal in Europe. I'm not someone to threaten but the issue is way to old to keep ignoring. I would really like an expected date to a fix. I did not spend money on a product that breaks after months and doesn't get repaired. A refund is possible but I rather see a fix.

Thank you

Is this trolling or serious? What is "game breaking" exactly? Would you rather loose a worker to enemy or save it from bring captured? Why do you send a worker to a place that is not safe?

The bug actually exists. The legal issue, and the poor definition of what constitutes "game-breaking", is just :sparkles: adorable :sparkles:.

I'm not trolling. I'm just trying to figure out what is causing the issue. The fact that we don't even have a mod out there that fixes it while a new thread pops up at least once per weak complaining about it makes me think no one knows what's actually causing it yet.

And ironically I do lose workers to this issue. I'm so used to the routine of 'end turn, re-give orders to 2-5 workers across the map, end turn again' that I usually end up ordering them to continue their work without looking to see why they've stopped working(as there is rarely a legitimate threat.) Though I'm sure without it I'd lose even more. I'm not against the feature just the lackluster implementation.

And it does make the game tedious especially when you're in a stage of the game where you're just waiting. One push of 'enter' turns into multiple pushes and about 10 clicks of the mouse. It doesn't bug me enough that I'd call the game broken(or start a thread on the issue) but that doesn't mean I wouldn't like to see it resolved. And I'm sure a lot of people here are sick of seeing this topic come up as often as it does.

I haven't got g&k yet, been playing vanilla for about a month.

This bug, and it is a bug, seems to me to affect captured workers primarily. It gets mighty tedious, though I agree it doesn't break the game. Particularly annoying is trying to build a road this way. I think one poster had the right idea...shoot them and buy a new one.

I might hazard a guess that what is happening is that the captured worker is seeing nearby units, the ones who captured it perhaps, as "unfriendly". So it stops working.

The problems is when the map gets full, remembering what you set the worker to do can also be a bit of a problem.

I can rationalize that captured workers ought to be harder to use than homespun, but sheesh.

But it is not stopping me from working... er playing. ;)

Wow, the guys falling on the OP are quite the slap heads. It happens that in 2025 I wanted to play Civ5 again, unfortunately I don't have the expansions and they are still quite pricey ! (around 30€ for all what's missing !)

And yes, I uninstalled the game because of this BUG, even though some people here didn't quite catch what is the problem and ridiculously kept saying it's a feature. :wallbash:

I had this issue for a while, too. I turned my graphics down a bit and it never happened again.
I got quite interested by this post, unfortunately I tried to put everything on LOW, no AA, every box unticked, and finally, because all this didn't seem to work, windowed screen. With all this everything is ugly (but fast for some strange reason, even with a 2024 PC with a 4070 Super) and the workers in the concerned area still stop working even if there is no enemy anymore nearby from looooong ago. As I'm at it, it is of no use to delete the workers and use another one, because it's not the workers that work bad, it's the areas they are put in. If you delete a worker that stops to work every turn and replace it with a new worker, this new worker will stop working if put on the same tile to work.

I'm still surprised no one has come with a mod to correct this. It must be possible ?
