When to let go of Stonehenge?

Settle it. 2h/5gpt is a pretty big boost in the early game, and the 2h of course becomes 3h with bureaucracy. This can be a way bigger boost than an early academy if you're in a situation where you have to keep the slider low.

But i'd say more often than not you're planning for a high commerce bureau cap.

..and besides what Benji wrote, bulbing Theo is very good sometimes.
Big trade tech, and if you have a friendly neighbor with a religion trade with them first so they build the AP (for you) ;)

or you can build it yourself and just win the map instantly ;-)

ok so on maps with weak land and/or the intent to cheese, the SH might make sense... in all other cases, the GS is way superior tho, especially when you get unlucky and pop a couple of GProphets more after the initial one ;)

I will sometimes build it if my second city has stone. Not having to build individual monuments (I almost never found a religion) can really help early city placement. Sometimes you need to pop borders to get to the food or gold or whatnot. I often am faced with the choice of crappy long term placement vs almost useless first 30 turn placement. Having SH can cut 30 useless turns down to 10 or so, which can be huge at the start of the game.

It is also useful to build in your second city if that city is in a culture war with your neighbor's capital. With stone, stonehedge is quicker to build and offers more early culture than just about anything else.
