A large chunk of my academic and cognizant ability comes from not drinking until after highschool.

I'm not saying I was perfect. I practically lived at my gf's house and slept in her room most nights in 10th, 11th and 12th grade. I skipped 45 days my senior year (some days in parts, added together); I didn't getin trouble cause I was in all honors and AP classes and had good grades. But the not drinking (nor smoking anything) has made the rest of my life MUCH easier. I left highschool with my mind in one piece.

If I had kids, I'd want the same for them (well, not the gf part or the skipping school).

I've never had alcohol really. When I was 15 and by myself one day I tried to take a shot of my father's whiskey but the taste hit me so hard I spat it out. So not really.

Maybe it's because neither of my parents drank at all (a glass of wine when out to dinner occasionally), but the ages given in this thread are stunning.

I never even considered drinking except a couple parties at the end highschool. I cannot imagine considering it at under 17. It never even occured to me. I know now that most people drink at a younger age, but back then it never crossed my mind.

I polled 19-24. It was actually 18 (freshman year college), but the brackets are crap - as usual.

I still haven't had any (well, unless you count some grape juice that I hadn't realized had gone bad, or the rubbing alcohol not drunk but put on wounds), and I don't plan to any time soon even though I could legally buy my own in 2 1/2 weeks (or very easily take some from my roommates, as I could have done for the last 2 1/2 years).
