When will a machine pass the "Turing test"?

When will a computer pass the Turning Test?

I disagree. It will require an extremely advanced neural network, but there's nothing to prove it out of the realm of possibility.

That said, it is at least a century away.

just because it can be done, NEVER means it should be done.

Never. You cannot programm creative thinking into a machine.

What makes you so sure that there is a fundamental difference between human intelligence and that of machines?

True, but in case like this I woul dsay the onus of proof is on those who say it should not be done.

Sorry, forgot about the monkies man. :(

So, does the author of that critisism have a better idea for a test?

I think the Turing Test is a pretty simple and basic way to measure someone's humanity.

The real test is if a AI can join CFC and get to 1,000 posts without anyone question it's humanity. :D

I think it will be done, but I don't think the Turing test is the true sign of a computer being able to act human.

The Turing Test has no standards, it's impricise. It's basicly an "I'll know it when I see it" thing. With science precision is required or else it has no meaning.

Several programs, such as A.L.I.C.E., are getting good at conversation, but they still have a long ways to go. http://web.archive.org/web/20041111092623/www.nik.com.au/alice/
gives a conversation that two A.L.I.C.E. programs had with themselves. It quickly fell into a loop after some pretty boring talk. I do believe it's only a matter of time though, and voted before 2020.

I dont think it will be that long. (after all they are only mimicing humans, not thinking like them).

However, I wonder if they will have bad spelling?

Judge determines that person A is real due to his use of the word "teh".

Someday it will, either through neural or quantum computers.
