Where does the AI get all its units from?

In a long Civ4 war (on Prince) against Shaka, and I've defeated about five big stacks of units but they keep coming, every two or three turns more units than I could ever build in such a short time. He won't settle for peace and sooner or later however I replay, I get overwhelmed. He's on Hereditary, Vassalage and Caste - how does the AI churn out such huge stacks so quick?

I'm not quite sure about Prince, but the AI gets bonuses for every era they advance in, so like in modern times (I've read) , AI already has like 5* bonus on about everything. Basically, the AI cheats, and it takes playing really well to go against that. If you have like 10 cities, it should also be np for you to get 10 units every 2-3 turns.

Like Seraiel said, the AI cheats, and it only gets worse the higher the difficulty level. IIRC, Shaka is also a pretty big unit spammer, ie he has a higher chance to build units then other AIs.

I just wonder how the AI gets experienced units when it has had nothing to fight.

The AI doesn't cheat, it just gets a handicap (which you agree to when selecting the difficulty level). It would be endlessly time consuming if not impossible to create an AI which could pose a challenge to a human player with no bonuses.

If anything, it's the human who is the cheater. What other civ can attack at friendly when its target's army is off fighting at the other side of the map?

As I recall, the AI handicap at prince is a 5% bonus to production and research. That's not enough to explain the large discrepancy in unit production the OP describes. I suspect something more fundamental about his game play.

If I world builder myself a free unit for every 2 I build, would you consider that cheating?

I believe the 5% is only the start of the game, as the game progress to later eras the bonus gets larger.

What sort of units is he spamming? If he's got a forge in every city and every city's got a food resource and a bunch of hills, it's not difficult to make swarms. Agg + Ikhanda + Vassalage = universal lv3 melee. More if Impi are around. Remember the AI doesn't really get troubled by upkeep, so he's got no real cap on production.

Obviously yes.

If the horse with the lowest weight wins a handicap race, do you consider that cheating?

If the jockey intentionally drops some of his handicap weight secretly before the start of a race, do you consider that cheating?

Hint: only one is cheating

If the AI has large high hammer cities, he can crank out those units. By mid game even I, the player, usually have several cities that can produce a military unit every one or two turns, with at least two promos, and often three, right out of the gate.

Don't forget the upgrade discounts.

You can invade the continent of Zululand, and overnight those Impii become riflemen or mechanized infantry. Then they converge on you.
