Which (computer-game friendly) crowdfunding service to use?

Not sure where else i could post this thread (it isn't that much about 'computer/tech stuff', it is about sites/services tied to crowdfunding projects).

I ask if people here know about such sites, and how does one go about choosing which to use for a Computer game. More specifically a horror adventure point and click, 3d graphics and 3d-engine based.

I ask since i am nearing (one month to completion) the stage to choose such a site for my game demo (WIP pic in spoiler below)

Any relevant advise would really be great :scan:

I don't know which service you should use, but my advice would be to make sure you have a solid plan in place to complete the game before you ask people for money. Too many projects get crowdfunded and then the developers just up and vanish one day with all the money.

kickstarter is the biggest, but it likes big projects, too. You might find luck on indiegogo, which is about specifically indie games IIRC.

^Awesome!

Already some very cool info, thanks!

@Commodore: i will surely finish the game, no worry there (i actually came to like the process, but i also need money for obvious reasons... Can't dedicate 3-5 months on the whole game without any cash to sustain myself or pay for some outsourced stuff -such as a game OST).

Game plot is already set (it is mostly an adaptation of stories from my published book. The demo is adapted from the last story there).

I suggested that you redo the graphics as 16bit pixels, the graphic style is really poor choice
It looks like a game from the 1990s that did not stand the test of time, I know you wanted a myst style graphics but its poorly executed.

Why dont you greenlite it on Steam and goto early access ?

I don't think that the graphic quality is too bad, but my eye is rather drawn to all the stripes everywhere.

This. I don't see a reason not to use Kickstarter to be honest, but what's more important is what your plans are beyond just putting up your project. For a game in particular that includes:
- demonstrating that you (or your collaborators) command all necessary skills required for the game (art, writing, sound design, game design, implementation ...)
- footage of someone (you) playing the game. If you can't play the game yet (even if its alpha) you don't belong on a crowdfunding site
- your USP. For an adventure game, it's the story imo. You should have something to make people interested beyond "it's [genre X] and about Y"

I agree that the art style you have chosen is probably rather unfortunate considering what current trends and sensibilities are.

^I plan to present the demo for dl, as part of the crowdfunding, so i am not sure what you mean about 'footage of you playing the game'. I wouldn't present nothing and expect to logically use the site.

Also not sure why you thought there would be no presentation of the themes, plots, or mine or other people working on this bios. Again utterly wrong, i plan to present that in considerable length.

And don't feed trolls by making the thread about things it is not about, wip in spoiler is just there for having some image provided, not because it is the finished room

Well if I'm wrong then that's good for you.

Again, if I go to a crowdfunding site and first have to download a demo to get an idea what the project is about, I will just not download the demo. Videos are much better.

And you should work on your attitude towards your project and people talking about it. When you already show such a defensive/hostile reaction to a list of suggested guidelines for a successful crowdfunding project that doesn't even include criticism of any kind then maybe you're not personally ready yet to put your work out there.

^Ok, so you also think i wouldn't have a preview brief video along with the dl of the playable demo. So wrong again. Btw, this isn't the crowdfunding site. Maybe it plays a role (or other things as well, i am sure you can note the difference between those sites and OT regular threads). However i got to pick up some info on two sites (wasn't very familiar with IndieGogo) so i am happy i posted the thread.

Make sure you do some research as to what exactly it takes to put together a successful kickstarter (or whatever) campaign. People on those sites are used to looking for very specific things when they decide whether your project is worth supporting or not.

One thing that I heard is important is having good rewards for your backers, and well thought out reward levels. You definitely want to put up a video in which you explain stuff, you probably want at least an alpha of your game built or at least something you could use for a video with in-game footage, you want to post regular updates, you want to have a well thought out timeline for completion complete with milestones, and.. well, I'm not an expert, I'm just going by what I remember from a couple failed kickstarters and what people said the problem was, etc.
