A bit of history. This site got its start in 2000 when @Thunderfall founded it. When Civ III came out it began to take off. Older gamers and Millennials filled the ranks of members in the early years. Over time, I suspect that most of the members who clicked their decade as one of the top few choices have either died or moved on. One has to keep in mind though that this poll has only 6000 clicks out of the many tens of thousands of those who have visited this forum over the years. It is a snapshot of those who have joined.

There was a big mass migration (or logins in both) from a site called Apolyton, started in the late '90's, at some point.

Poly was the main Civ fan site for several years, in direct competition with CFC. Poly was started in 1998 or so. The animosity between Poly and CFC was so strong, you rather had to choose where to be. I discovered Poly first and was there for a good decade before I registered here (Poly: 2000, here: 2013), but my main "home" after I left Poly was WPC (WePlayCiv), a site that was an offshoot from Poly when it became, let's say, mismanaged. I still am very active on WPC, but we have moved to Discord these days.

Reading this thread makes me feel old in a very specific way. This thread was created exactly on my ninth birthday, around the time when I had trouble installing Civ 3 because my desktop at the time couldn't take it haha

That was me. :D

And Mister Cooper. And my many anagrams: Scooter Prime, Esoteric Romp, Mice Troopers, Stoic Emperor, Topic Remorse, and so on...

My immediate thoughts were that I wonder if any of the 13 people from the 30s and 77 people from the 40s are still with us.

I felt old when this thread started, and the intervening years (and increasing skewing of the poll even further away from my own decade) haven’t helped!

Lets grab another beer, i'll lighten you up!

Same year my mother in law is born! She hardly understands computers at all though, I always get impressed when people your generation understand them. :) Especially my grandfather, who is 90. He has an iPhone and has had PCs and cell phones since the 80s.

1965 here, but being a 35 year retired IT professional, I have no problems with technology

I'm a child of computer gaming, I've had all the early consoles, Atari 2600, Intellivision, Nes/Snes/N64/WII, PS1/3/4, Sega Genesis name it... Never ever had an Xbox though... strange a little.
Also had most of the early computers: TRS-80, Apple II, IBM PC, VIC-20, Commodore 64, Amiga...
Also played an awful lot of Pinball, Arcade and Foosball in my youth... Always was a gamer at heart

Must say that I'm mainly a PC Gamer now, especially in the last 15 years... I've pretty much abandoned consoles now. When the controllers incorporated more than 4 buttons, they lost me  Guess that's how I show my venerable age !

I still think we should start a new poll with each version so we can compare the userbase for Civ4 to Civ7 instead of having them all muddled together.

Why would one do that?
